Recently i got tapes from salafibookstore about Fiqh of Adhan by Shaykh Fawzee al-Atharee. Alhamdulillah it is very useful. I just want to mention one thing from there which surprised me a lot because i never heard it before ? How aahan should be given. All these are small part of a lecture given by Shaykh Fawzee Al Atharee and translated by brother Abu Talhah . From Abu Mahzura radiallahu anhu that prophet of Allaah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam taught him this adhan: Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah Then returning and saying again: Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah Hayya 'alas salah Hayya 'alas salah Hayya 'alal falah Hayya 'alal falah
Ishaq meaning ibn Ibrahim added Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar Laa ilaha illallaah
Muslim, Aboo Dawood in his Sunan, ibn Khuzaimah in his Sahih and others. Also Hadith of Abdullah ibn Zayd companion who had a dream about adhan teaches us more points on giving adhan. See Aboo Dawood in his Sunan chapter how adhan is to be given vol 1 page 134.
So this shows it is correct and legislated to perform tarji' in adhan i.e muazzin first says 2 shahadas in low voice just people near him can hear it then he again says 2 shahadas for 2nd time raising his voice with them. This is called at tarji'. This tarji' applies in adhan not in iqamah. Most muazzins do not apply this Sunnah. So in Summary adhan consists of 19 phrases: 1. Allaahu Akbar 2. Allaahu Akbar 3. Allaahu Akbar 4. Allaahu Akbar 5. Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah (in lower voice) 6. Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah (in lower voice) 7. Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (in low voice) 8. Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (in low voice) 9. Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah (raise voice) 10. Ashhadu alla ilaha illallah(raise voice) 11. Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (raise voice) 12. Ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah (raise voice) 13. Hayya 'alas salah 14. Hayya 'alas salah 15. Hayya 'alal falah 16. Hayya 'alal falah 17. Allaahu Akbar 18. Allaahu Akbar 19. Laa ilaha illallaah
Fore more you can refer to that tape inshaAllaah..it is very beneficial alhamdulillah
within the hadeeth of abu Juhayfah wahb ibn abdillaah as Suwaa'i that he said: I followed Bilal's mouth (while he was calling the adhaan)here and there, saying to his right and left 'hayya alas salaah, hayya alal falaah' as is stated in Umdatul ahkaam
as for the putting of the fingers in the ears abu Juhayfah also reports that when he saw Bilal calling the adhaan ' and his two fingers were in his ears'. hasan reported by Tirmadhi
