Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee on the Students of Knowledge Clarifying the Errors of Scholars from Ahlus-Sunnah

The noble Scholar is asked what the student of knowledge who comes across an error from a Scholar of Ahlus-Sunnah must do; is it a condition upon the student of knowledge to consult the people of knowledge first before refuting the error, or can he refute the error without consulting them, but still fulfilling the conditions of refuting an error?

Note: This soundbyte was taken from the lecture of Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Haadee entitled, at-Tamassuk bis-Sunnah

A questioner posed the following question on sahab.net after hearing this answer,

"May Allaah bless you and Shaykh Muhammad al-Madkhalee.  However, I have not understood the answer of the Shaykh well.  So will you explain it to me?  Since, I am troubled by the student of knowledge of speaks out against the Scholar who has fallen into an error.  Perhaps that perceived error is not an error, but the student of knowledge thinks it is an error - and that is due to his lack of knowledge.  So he will cause problems for others by his refutation of that Scholar.  So perhaps this doubt will be removed if you explain to me the intended meaning of the Shaykh - hafidhahullaah - and may Allaah reward you with goodness."

So the Shaykh, Ahmad Ibn 'Umar Baazmool replied, "And with regards to the question of the brother, then the answer to it is:

Indeed, the speech of Shaykh Muhammad al-Madkhalee - hafidhahullaahu ta'aalaa - concerns the one who comes across an error from any Shaykh, then he must refute it, even if he does not refer back to the Scholars first.

However, this is with the well-known condition that the people of knowledge and Shaykh Muhammad al-Madkhalee have always repeated and it is that the student of knowledge must be knowledgeable of that issue and well capable of clarifying the correct path from the error and he must have the ability to refute.

So if he is not well capable of that, then it is unlawful (haraam) for him to speak without knowledge."
