Question: Does the mercy descend upon the gatherings of the people bida and desires?
Sheikh Zaid: Subhana Allah, the gatherings upon which the mercy of Allah envelops and descends upon them, and the noble angels circle around them, they are those that sit for the recitation of the Koran, and those that sit for the reminders to gain an understanding of the permissible and the impermissible, those that sit in the circles of knowledge, Islamic knowledge, seeking the truth and fighting against falsehood, they support the Sunnah and fight against bida; they are the ones upon whom the angels descend, and upon whom the tranquility descend and those who are encompassed by the mercy. As for the people of innovation, then ponder the statement of the Prophet peace and blessings are upon him; Every innovation is a going astray and every going astray is in the hell-fire. Meaning the one who does the innovation. So their gatherings are not encompassed by anything except the curse they are not encompassed by mercy. The gatherings of the people of innovation are not encompassed by anything except the curse, the curse descends upon them because they altered and changed the deen of Allah the Exalted, they added in the deen and took away from the deen, therefore there is not honor for them. And how many warnings have there been from many different righteous people, warning every Muslim from sitting in the gatherings of the people of innovation because the curse will descend upon them and they will be afflicted by it along with them, even if they are not from the people of bida, but because they sit with them. The pious predecessor warned from this due to the severe danger of bida and the harms that it has upon its people. And Allah the Glorified and Exalted is angry with the people of bida and the believers are angry with the people of bida due to the harms that come from bida. So it is not permissible to sit with them and the mercy and tranquility does not descend upon them nor do the angels encircle them so how can they be from the people of mercy, they are those whom the curse has came down upon not the mercy.
