Bismillah wa salaat wa salam ala arasoolillah wa ala alihe wa ashabihe ajama'een, wa ba'ad:

Who is this MIRA(Movement for Islamic Reform in Arabia) led by and what is the basis of there manhaj.  I have been seeing them pop up in the news here and there for very "hizbi-like" activities.  A lot of what I have been reading about them implies that they are "ikhwanee-like" in there manhaj.  I don't get much info from these news articles that give any indication of their aqeedah.  I would just like to be informed of them so that I can add them to my rack of the rejected and refuted.  As well I would like to have adeelah to present to their sympathizers.

Jazakallahu kulli khairun

Assalaamu Alaykum,

They were alleged to have done some kind of "protest" a few days back, I think in Riyaadh, which was broken up by riot police with tear-gas.

www.fatwa-online sent their mailing-list teh following article; is that MIRA ?

JEDDAH, 16 October 2003 - Interior Minister Prince Naif has confirmed
the arrest of 150 people for taking part in a demonstration in Riyadh in
violation of the Kingdom's laws. "We have arrested these people for
investigation and the law will be applied to them," Prince Naif told
Asharq Al-Awsat, a sister publication of Arab News.

He said the individuals, who gathered on the King Fahd Expressway in
Riyadh's Al-Olaya District, were holding placards with the names of
Ghida Al-Sharif, a Saudi woman who vigorously criticized the government
and who is allegedly in prison, and others.

He warned Saudis against holding similar demonstrations in the future.

A high level Saudi source said that security agents were interrogating
the demonstrators, including some women, for attempting to create chaos
and confusion and violating the Kingdom's regulations. According to one
report, there were three women in the group.

"The country's regulations categorically ban gatherings for the purpose
of demonstrations and protests. Those who participate in such gatherings
will be punished," the source said. He confirmed that the arrested
demonstrators would be transferred to the judiciary.

Witnesses told Asharq Al-Awsat that the demonstration began at 4 p.m.
when groups of five assembled near the newly opened Kingdom Tower.

They requested passersby to join them but security forces who were
present at the scene told them to leave.

The groups stood in the middle of the road, obstructing traffic, and
held the demonstration at about 5 p.m. Security forces then intervened
to break up the gathering and arrested the demonstrators.

The source said he believed that most of the detainees would be released
if not found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Abdul Ilah Al-Rajhi, another witness, pointed out that most of the
demonstrators were young men. "They called for the release of some
prisoners, including Ghida Al-Sharif. Some held up the Holy Qur'an."

Prince Naif said that the report of the arrest of Ghida Al-Sharif was
false. "Let them contact the family and learn the facts," he told
reporters on Monday.

The Al-Sharif family has confirmed that no member of its family by the
name of Ghida is under investigation or in prison. There are 37 females
named Ghida Al-Sharif in Saudi records with the oldest 21 years old and
unmarried.

The Al-Sharif family has threatened to take legal action against the
self-styled opposition leader, Saad Al-Faqih, for damaging the family's
reputation with the tale of the arrest of Ghida and her husband.

"Nobody in the family has told us about the arrest of a woman called
Ghida. There is no truth in it. The whole story is fabricated," Aun
Al-Barakati, a member of the Al-Sharif family and the Makkah Regional
Council, told the Arabic daily. He reiterated his family's total
allegiance to the ruling Al-Saud family.

The Grand Mufti, Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al-Asheikh, yesterday condemned the
demonstration as an act of anarchism. "If they have any demands, the
demands must be made through proper channels," he told Al-Jazirah
newspaper. He urged all citizens to obey the authorities.

Prince Naif, meanwhile, opened a meeting of the national committees for
the care of prisoners. He said that the Kingdom's prisons were meant to
reform inmates and lead them away from sin.

He urged the public to support released prisoners and help them lead a
decent life as members of society.

Wa 'Alaikumu salaam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh,

Just as I figured, another group of troublemakers to add to the continious list of the ones who already exist. I am moreso wondering about the origin of the group and if it has any offshoots so that I may steer clear of them and their likes.  Jazakallahu khaira for the added info though.  At least I have a little more insight on what they are about.
