I would like to ask one of the students of knowledge, du'aat or anyone else who knows what the scholars have said the following question:

In "Explanation of the Creed" of Imam al-Barbahaaree (rahimahullaah) one of the points is that an angel descends with each raindrop.  Are there any ahadeeth or athaar which state this?

And, in general, do we accept narrations and kalam on points of aqeedah and matters of the unseen by the Salaf if there aren't Qur'aanic ayat and/or ahadeeth to support them?

.

Shaykh Ahmad ibn Yahyaa an-Najmee (may Allaah preserve him) explained this point, saying:
quote:

"...We believe in the qudrah (power/ability) of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, and we believe that Allaah knows about every leaf that falls and about every single raindrop and where it lands.  However, as for the descension of an angel with (the descension of) each drop until it lands in its place, then this is an affair that is not established from the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam).  Thus, I say that "fee haathaa nathar" (meaning that it is not correct, expressed in a very lenient manner), and with Allaah is success."

forgot to mention the source: Irshaad as-Saaree ilaa Tawdheeh Sharh as-Sunnah lil-Imaam al-Barbahaaree of Shaykh Ahmad an-Najmee (p.94, nuskhah musawwarah)

and about the issue of "accepting narrations and kalam on points of aqeedah and matters of the unseen by the Salaf if there aren't Qur'aanic ayat and/or ahadeeth to support them?"

Then:  We accept the reports of some of the Salaf, in this regard, with coditions:

[1] That it be from a Companion;

[2] That he/she was not known to have access to or narrate Israa'eeliyyaat;

[3] When they have spoken about an affair that could not have come from their own deductions (ijtihaad), like affairs of the ghayb;

[4] That the chain of narration is acceptable (at least hasan lighayrihi).

When these conditions are met, then we say: This is something that they must have learned from the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), and it has the ruling of being marfoo' (a narration attributed to the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam).

And Allaah knows best.
