Shaykh Bakr Abu Zayd died today, Yawm ath-Thulatha, 28 Muharram - February 5. His janazah was prayed this evening after Salatul-Ishaa.
May Allah forgive his sins and grant him Jannah, ameen.

IN THE NAME OF ALLAAH THE MOST MERCIFUL THE BESTOWER OF MERCY
O ALLAAH CAUSE US TO DIE AS MUSLIMS
THE SUPPLICATION OF YOOSUF (ALAYHIS-SALAAM)
His (Ta-aalaa) saying about His Prophet (Yoosuf) that he (alayhis-salaam) said:
'You are my Wali (Protector, Helper, Supporter, Guardian, God, and Lord) in this world and the Hereafter. Cause me to die as a Muslim (the one submitting to Your Will), and join me with the righteous' 12:101
Imaam Ibnul Qayyim (rahimahullaah) stated:
This supplication is gathered upon: affirmation of Tawheed, submission to The Lord (Allaah), declaration of (one's) poverty in His (subhaanah) Presence and a declaration of (one's) freedom from allegiance to other than Him (subhaanah). The affair of dying as a Muslim is from the loftiest aims of the slave. This is only in the hands of Allaah and not in the hands of the slave, and so are the knowledge of (one's) destination and the seeking of happiness (in the Hereafter). (Al-Fawaa-id of Ibnul Qayyim. Page:276)
We ask Allaah to cause us to die as Muslims, just as He (subhaanah) granted the two sheikhs [Bakr Abu Zaid and Dr Saaleh As Saaleh (rahimahumal-Allaah)] this great favour. And we ask Allaah to forgive and overlook our shortcomings and to forgive and overlook theirs. INDEED ALLAAH PREFERRED THEM WITH ILM OVER US AND OVER MANY OF HIS SLAVES.
Imaam Sadi (rahimahullaah) stated:
The (scholars and the teachers) are the intermediary between the Messenger (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) and his Ummah with regards to propagation of his religion and clarification of his sharee-ah. Had it not been for them, the people would have been like cattle. Their rights are greater than the rights of the fathers and the mothers. For indeed they nurture the souls and hearts of the slaves upon the beneficial sciences and sound knowledge. ( Source: Noorul Basaa-ir Wal Albaab, page:57-58)
Imaam Ibnul Qayyim-rahimahullaah also stated:
'KNOWLEDGE IS THAT WHICH IS ESTABLISHED UPON PROOF. AND THAT WHICH IS OF BENEFIT FROM IT IS WHAT THE MESSENGER (sallal-laahu-alayhi-wasallam) CAME WITH' [Madaarij-As-Saalikeen (Vol 2: page: 170)]
So let us reflect upon the passing away of others, especially if such ones were people of ilm and virtue. Let us take where they took from and leave that which is in opposition to the Book, the Sunnah of the Messenger and the methodology of the Salafus Saalih, as Sheikh Saaleh al Fawzaan said:
'We are to return to the Kitaab and the Sunnah, and then take what they declare to be the truth and abandon what they declare to be other than the truth; because our goal is to follow the truth, and not to gain the upper hand through OPINIONS, EXALTING FOREFATHERS, and ANCESTORS OR SHUYOOKH. This is not the concern of the Muslims. The truth is the desired goal of the Muslim; and he takes it wherever he finds it. The objective is to (take) the truth, 'IF YOU BELIEVE IN ALLAAH AND THE LAST DAY'. 'THAT IS BETTER' for you than being upon differing. 'AND THAT IS BETTER AND MORE SUITABLE FOR FINAL DETERMINATION', meaning: that is a better end result' (source: Sharh Masaa-ilil ýJaahiliyyah).
We ask Allaah to forgive us and our parents and all the Muslims. We ask Him for Tawfeeq, ikhlaas and thabaat upon His Deen.
