QUESTION

Is it permissible for Muslims to put their children in the schools of the non-Muslims, knowing the many contradictions to the the Islaamic Sharee'ah that are found in their schools and the effects they have on our children? Specifically for:

(a) those who have a proper Islaamic school in their city, but it is expensive

(b) those who do not have a proper Islaamic school in their city, rather there are "Islaamic" schools run by people of innovation

(c) those who do not have any kind of Islaamic school whatsoever in their city

What is apparent to me, and Allaah knows best, is that it is not permissible under any circumstances for the Muslims to put their children in the schools of the non-Muslims. This is not permissible, expecially when these schools teach things that are foreign to the Deen, like the beliefs of the Christians or the Jews, or other impermissible things.

This is the case whether there is an Islaamic school in the city or not. No doubt, when one puts his children in the non-Muslims' school while there is an Islaamic school in the city, this is even more severely prohibited than the one who does so and does not have an Islaamic school in his city.

[ This was the end of the shaykh's answer on the cassette. When asked over the telephone about the issue of Muslims putting their children in the schools of the people of bid'ah, the shaykh requested that the following be added to his answer: ]

And it is not permissible for the Muslims to put their children into schools where innovation is being taught, or things that are in contradiction to the Sunnah. The scholars are preventing students of knowledge from reading the books of the innovators, so how can it be permissible for little children to study in schools where innovations are taught?! Especially when they are not able to distinguish between Sunnah and bid'ah, their hearts may become attached to innovations, and Allaah's Refuge is sought. So it is not permissible to put children in schools where innovation is taught.

Aslaam alaikum,

With regards to sending children to non-muslim schools then please could any of the brothers get some advice on if the child has some form of disability i.e partially deaf. I currently have a younger sister who is partially deaf and due to the location we live in then there are no islamic schools.  Unfortunately we have sent our sister to a non-muslim school where they cater for children with disabilities i.e deaf/blind etc.

If it was upto myself then i would personally move to birmigham due to the large number of salafee children who my sister could mix with atleast, but it is out of my hands.   Although there is an islamic school within the city of Birmigham how do they cater for children of this nature please advise or could any brothers/sisters advise on a situation like this.

It has reached us that people are using the name of Ash-Shaykh Falaah (haafidhahullaah) in justifying sending their children to the schools of the kuffaar...

Assalaamu alaikum,

It would involve effort and research, but maybe homeschool options should be considered insha-Allah. If there are a number of Muslim children in a community, maybe a Salafee can be hired to teach them from a homeschool program that is approved by the local school board (you may need to contact the local school board for info on reccommended homeschool programs)

Muslim Children Studying in The Schools of The Disbelievers
  

Question:

What is the ruling on a man who registers his son or his daughter in a French or English school ? which are both in opposition to the teachings of the Religion. Whilst he claims to be a Muslim and that he is seeking a good future for them?  

Answer:

It is obligatory upon the father that he cultivates his offspring ? whether they are male or female with an Islamic cultivation. For they are a trust in his hand; and he will be responsible for them on The Day of Judgement. Thus it is impermissible for him to enter them into the schools of the disbelievers for fear of fitnah (trial) and of the corruption of ones belief as well as manners/conduct.

The future is in The Hand of Allaah The Majestic and Most High, Allaah The Majestic and Most High says:

((And whosoever fears Allaah,
then He will make his matter easy for him.))

The Free-Mixing of Young Children in Schools and Whilst Swimming
  

Question:

British state schools are free mixed; so boys and girls study in them together; and are compelled to wash and swim in the same place. The girls can be naked at the time of washing ? or semi naked, and so some of the Scholars gave the verdict that if the girls are of a young age then there is no harm in that. What does your eminence see? And what is the Islamic method of covering for the young girl; and what is the age in which the Hijaab becomes obligatory for the girl?  

Answer:

The free mixing of boys and girls whilst studying is Haraam (forbidden); as is their (the girls) mixing in a place of washing and swimming ? this is Haraam. Whether they be young in age or older, due to that which is found in it by way of the rousal of fitnah (trial) and the seeing of the private parts. Since it is a means towards wickedness and the undertaking of evil actions.
