As selam aleykum,

when we ask the following Questions:

What is the Hukum on such an such Fulaan and Fulaan? Can we take knowledge from him and his like? How do we deal with him and his followers?

Sometimes we get the following response:

Don´t busy yourselve and the other with such issues. Busy yourselve with beneficial knowledge.

So what is the Hukum or the right response to such claims and other like this?

If an answer is not possible right now than please post the appropriate article or Link.

Baarakallahu feeqh.

As selam aleykum.

wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaah,

The likes of this answer could be coming from:

1) A sincere Salafee advisor who wants good for his brother, and since the questioner may be actually "busying himself" with fulaan and fulaan without any real need, the concerned Salafee advisor encourages him to focus more on learning;

2) An innovator or the supporter of innovators, and since the questioner is asking about people of innovation (his true brothers), he replies with this statement, its apparent meaning being sincere advice, its intention being a smokescreen and a diversion away from knowing the reality of some of the harmful people of innovation, and thus a trick to keep the questioner ignorant;

3) A confused person, perhaps even a claimant to Salafiyyah, one who mixes with the people of innovation, befriends them, and fails to distinguish himself from them and their manhaj.  His mingling with them leads him to hate that their realities become known.  Such a person is guilty of betrayal when he fails to reveal the danger of such people, and his encouragement to focus on "beneficial knowledge" is only a smokescreen and a trick, similar to case #2.

Whatever the case, when a person asks about a teacher in his area or someone teaching on the internet, and he would like to benefit from him, but he is careful about whom he takes knowledge from him, as is befitting for the Salafee, then his question deserves a clear answer, and it is clearly beneficial knowledge.  People who have information for this questioner but hide it are guilty of a serious form of betrayal, and are subject to the punsihment mentioned by the Messenger of Allaah: "Whoever is asked about something that he knows and hides it will be made to wear a bridle of Fire on the Day of Judgement."

However, when a person is asking about people for no real need, people that have no relationship with him, not even a potential one, then such a person should be encouraged to take advantage of the available classes that he may be distracted from due to his unnecessary questioning...

I hope this reply was of some benefit, by Allaah's Permission.

And Allaah knows best.
