As Salaamu Alaikum,
The following is a translation of a conversation between a brother and Shaykh Faalih Al-Harbee hadidhahullaah, posted on the salafi forum Sahab (www.sahab.net)

Hammam: Our Shaykh! There are some people of ulterior motives who are spreading a statement made by Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad, and are interperating it in the wrong way, so how can this be refuted?
Shaykh Faalih Al-Harbee: By Allaah I do not see that anything was said by Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad hafidhahullaah ? that contains blame and censure, rather according to what he said, merely that I am a minor student of knowledge. [I say] No, I am a small tuwaylib al-ilm (even smaller student of knowledge), even smaller ? the point is I am a student of knowledge, so what kind of an attack does this constitute?
Hammam: If you would be so kind as to say something on this topic?
Shaykh Faalih Al-Harbee: Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad hafidhahullaah is one of the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah and should be benefited from; he should be referred to and asked about Ahkam, Manhaj, and 'Aqidah, Ahkam Ash-Shar'eeyah and what concerns the Muslim's religion. Shaykh Al-'Abbad is one of the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah, so [the Muslims] should ask him, and what he says he says based upon what appears to him to be correct, according to his ijtihaad; and he is qualified ? inshaa Allaah ? to practice ijtihaad and seek the correct ruling. There is really nothing that calls for question, like this question. [In] what he said ? he is a scholar; he is asked and he answers according to his ijtihaad. I do not see that what he said contained censure or blame. I think that I am a student ? or even a minor student of knowledge; what's wrong with this statement? I don't see anything wrong with it. Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin said this statement and we found others from the scholars saying something else, alhamdulillaah we don't find in the statements of our scholars any blame or censure.
Hammam: How is your relationship with Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad?
Shaykh Faalih Al-Harbee: Our relationship ? alhamdulillaah ? is one of love, there is no khilaaf between us, and there is nothing between us except love for Allaah ? alhamdulillaah. Is this what these people (meaning Ahlul-Bid'ah) want by what they say? Their aim ? perhaps ? Ashaabul-Ahwaa` want to gratify their hearts. Anyway Shaykh Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbaad is one of the scholars of the Sunnah and inshaa Allaah he will not be harmed by their plots; he said what he said and there is no fault in what he said.
I say along with him what he said when he spoke with one of them and advised him to benefit [from the scholars]. It is upon everyone when they contact the scholars to benefit and ask them about fiqh in religion; they should gain understanding of their religion. This cannot be achieved except through asking the scholars and contacting them. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets, and the Prophets left no deenar or dirham as inheritance; rather they only left knowledge, whoever takes it takes a great portion.
This is what we say ? Allaah bless you ? and we do not say anything else; and these people will never get anything else. So if you hear some statements or interpretations of statements that contradict this then know that it is a lie whoever brings it ? human or jinn.
Hammam: Regarding the statement that may be spread and used to plant fitnah between the scholars ? the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah, how should it be dealt with?
Shaykh Faalih Al-Harbee: It should be rejected, and its propagator should be criticized, and so should the statement itself. May Allaah praise and send peace upon our Prophet Muhammad.
