Bismillah,

Assalaamu alaikum,

Please could any of the tullaab ask the ulemah or clarify from what they have already from the mashaykh regarding the following question - jazaakAllahu khairan:

Q. Is it permissible to make du'a for non-muslim parents, upon hearing that they have become seriously ill (ie. life threating illnesses like heart disease, cancer etc)- for Allaah (subhaana wa ta'aalaa) to cure them??

As a child you wish to make du'a for Allaah to cure them of their illness and restore them to good health and guide them to Islaam within the limits of what Islaam allows you.

Is it correct to do both of these - or is it that we should only make du'a for Allaah to guide them to Islaam?

Please clarify - may Allaah reward you and increase you in goodness and raise you in ranks - ameen.

Wassalaamu alaikum

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

Du'aa for non muslims is only to be made when they are alive and not after they have died. Allaah says:
ما كان للنبي و الذين آمنوا أن يستغفروا للمشركين و لو كانوا أولي قريى من بعد ما تبين لهم أنهم أصحاب الجحيم

'It is not proper for the prophet and those who believe to ask Allaah's forgivness for the pagans after it has become clear to them that they are the dwellers of the fire'.

Also narrated in Bukhaari from abu Hurairah that he reported that Tufayl ibn Amr came to the prophet صلى الله عليه و سلم and said: 'O messenger of Allaah! the tribe of Daws has disobeyed and refused to enter into Islaam, so supplicate against them!' So the people thought that the prophet would supplicate against them, but instead he said: 'O Allaah! Guide Daws and bring then to Islaam'.

As for making Du'aa for them in general for good health etc, As far as I know it is allowed as the Sunnah seems to indicate to in the du'aa that is made for the non muslims when they sneeze, we say to them
يهديكم الله و يصلح بالكم
May Allaah guide you and Rectify your affairs for you.

It would be a great benifit if the brothers and siters could try and find a specific text that deals with this issue even though the above I think does just that. و الله أعلى و أعلم
