Salaam alaikum,

As for an English link then I do not know, but as for the statement then Al-Khateeb Al-Baghdaadee brings it in his book Al-Kifaayah fee Ilmir-Riwaayah (pg.116): "Shaadhaan said: 'I heard Al-Hasan ibn Saalih say: 'When we desired to record [hadeeth] from a man we used to ask about him until the point it would be said to us, 'Do you intend to marry him'?"
