Assalamu Alaykum

I read one of the excellent series of articles from www.spubs.com, called:

'Shaykh Faalih al-Harbee on Issues Related to Advising Correcting,
Warning and Expelling from Salafiyyah'

and:

'Shaykh ?Ubayd al-Jaabiree on Refuting Opposition and Passing Judgements Upon Those From Whom Opposition Occurs'

and:

'Shaykh Faalih al-Harbee on the Principle of Abul-Hasan al-Misree in Restricting Speech Upon the Innovators To the Science of Jarh and Ta?deel'

I think I understood some of the principles mentioned in the articles, such as 'tahdheer' (warning) is for any common person from ahl us-sunnah, and comes under enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, and doesn't require a person to have detailed knowledge of al-jarh wa't ta'deel, as long as he has knowledge of that which he is warning from.  For example if a local takfeeree is known for promoting the books of the heretic Sayyid Qutb, then a commom salafi can warn against him, as long as he knows a few things about the innovations of Sayyid Qutb; and he doesn't have to go to scholar and ask about the takfeeree before warning against him. (I hope my understanding was correct, please correct me if I am wrong)

However there were some bit of the articles I couldn't understand, so can anybody whose read and fully comprehended the above articles explain to me the following passages taken from the footnotes from one of the articles:

"And this is the problem with some of those who ascribe to the salafi manhaj, but do not understand the salafi manhaj, they assume 'jarh' is synonymous with numerous matters, when they are seperate distinct matters in reality.  They do not distinguish between jarh upon the innovators, and between refuting the oppponent from Ahl us-sunnah, and nor do they distinguish between tabdee' on the one hand and between radd (refuting), naqd (criticising), tahdheer (warning) and other affairs that do not amount to tabdee' necesarilly, or jarh necesarilly, but come under the angle of naseehah and correction, and lessening the evil."

Could a knowledgable brother elaborate on this sentence:

"...They do not distinguish between jarh upon the innovators, and between refuting the oppponent from Ahl us-sunnah, and nor do they distinguish between tabdee' on the one hand and between radd (refuting), naqd (criticising), tahdheer (warning) and other affairs that do not amount to tabdee'...."

and can you please elaborate for me the term naqd?

Waiting for an answer.

Jazzak Umullahu khairan.

As Salaamu `Alaykum

The answer to your question is in the same article I believe, if not then in one of the other articles by Shaykh Faalih in the same series, where he explains that just because we warn or refute or point out mistakes, this does not necessarily amount to tabdee` or jarh or ta`an (revilement) that is done upon already established Innovators, or upon those who have had the hujjah established upon them. Rather, it is to be considered as giving of advice to the one whose actions are being warned against, or mistakes being clarified and pointed out.

Unfortunately, some people do not distinguish between this and that, so that when some Salafees point out mistakes in manhaj found with other Salafees, and offer them naseehah, and caution others from falling into these mistakes or being affected by them, they treat this as if it is tabdee`, or jarh, when in reality it is nothing but naseehah to them. So there has to be a distinction between disparagement of the Innovators and tabdee' and between the various things that amount to a form of naseehah, such as warning from mistakes in manhaj, or other mistakes, or clarifying errors of others, or pointing out certain traits found in people that can be harmful to the da'wah if others do not recognise them, all of which can emanate from Salafees. So clarifying, or correcting or refuting mistakes and warning from these mistakes in manhaj and undesirable traits and so on, is actually naseehah and is not to be equated with the level and stage of tabdee` and ta`an and jarh like that which relates to the Innovators.

The confusion between these two issues is found amongst the followers of al-Ma'ribee and also amongst those who are not with al-Ma'ribee, or who left him, but the confusion remained with them, so they did not distinguish between all these various issues.

Jazzak Allahu khair akhi Abu Iyaad.  Are you you referring to this answer by Allammah Falih (hafidhaullah), the explanation of which is found in the footnote? Quote:

"Shaikh Falih al-Harbee:[Interjecting]No, it does not [necesarilly]entail expelling from the manhaj....."

Yes, Akhee that is one statement if you look at the footnote to it which is another of the Shaykh's statements, it explains it more clearly.
