On the authority of Ibn 'Umar (radhiyallaahu 'anhumaa), the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said:

"Whoever goes to sleep in a state of purity,
an angel will stand guard over him.
He will not wake up at any time of the night,
except that the angel says,
'O Allaah forgive So-and-son, your servant -
for verily he went to sleep in a state of purity!' "

This report was collected by 'Abdullaah ibn Mubaarak in his Hadeeth (2/101/2), Ibn Hibbaan (#167), and others.  Al-Albaanee authenticated it in Silsilatul-Ahaadeethis-Saheehah (#2539).

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu

Thanks Moosaa for that valuable piece of knowledge! What does the following phase mean:

quote:

He will not wake up at any time of the night...

Does this mean that the Angel will continue to seek Allah's forgiveness for you as long as you DO NOT wake up during your sleep? And when you wake up the Angel's supplication ends? Is this the correct interpretation of the above quote?

As Salaamu Alaykum wa Rahmantullah wa Barakatuhu,

From what is clear from the translation of the hadeeth is that the angel will guard you and at anytime that one wakes up then the angel will says the du'a to Allah Azza wa Jala for you. Because in the hadeeth is the words: "except that". Meaning that if you wake up after having gone to bed in a state of purity then at that time that you awake from sleep then this is when the angel says the du'aa. And Allaahu ta' Ala Alam. The hadeeth is really clear but i hope this helps. Barakullahu feekum.

SubhanAllah, I can't believe I didn't get that! Jazak Allahu Khair s.alhashimi for pointing that out. You're right, the hadith is very clear now that I look back at it, however I guess I misunderstood it because I had a preconceived idea about that particular hadith. Allah Alam.
