Falling into Sujud to make Du'aa

A questioner asked Shaykh 'Abdullah bin 'Abdul-'Aziz Al 'Aqeel (hafidahullah) that they have read that Shaikh ul-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (rahimahullaah), if he wanted something, he would fall into prostration and supplicate to Allaah.  Is this action legislated?

Answer by Shaykh 'Abdullah bin 'Abdul-'Aziz Al 'Aqeel (hafidahullah):

quote:
Yes, this is legislated because of the hadeeth of the Messenger salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam: The closest that a person comes to his Lord is when he is in sujood [so say a great deal of du'aa in sujood]. {Narrated by Abu Hurayrah (radiallaahu 'anhu); Saheeh Muslim}

It is also mentioned that Imam Al-Bukhari (rahimahullaah) would not place a hadeeth in his book except after praying two units (raka'at) of prayer. Thus, this action is permissible and there is no problem in doing it.

Asslamu Alaikum Wa Rahamtullah

Jazakullah Khair for your post. There is 2 questions that I have with regards to the post:

Firstly: Is Wudhoo required for making the sujood when you are in need of anything as
mentioned with regards to shaykh ul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah ?

Secondly: If you are in sujood and need to Ask Allah for your needs is it a condition to say
this in arabic ?

Jazakullah Khair

A Forgotten Sunnah - Prostration for Gratitude

Excerpt:
quote:
Abu Bakra (radiallaahu 'anhu) narrated:
quote:
When happiness about something reached the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) or good news, he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) would prostrate to Allaah to show thankfulness.
Colleced by Abu Dawud (2776) Al-Albani (rahimahullaah) graded this hadeeth as being "Sahih."

Here are some of the benefits mentioned on the site:

quote:
Ibn Taymeeyah (rahimahullaah) said: Purification isn't a condition to offer Sujudus Shukr. This is derived from the verse about Firuan's magicians who prostrated after believing in Allaah. They didn't have Wudu prior to their belief. Here we understand that prostration is what Allaah loves and is pleased with. Legislation for those before us is legislation for us as long as there's no contradiction between the two.

quote:
Ibn Al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said: It's from the guidance of the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) to offer a prostration of thanks to Allaah whenever a blessing is granted or a trial and affliction is lifted.[ Zad 1/270]

quote:
Takbir: saying "Allahu Akbar" isn't mentioned that the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) did it before prostrating.

Wa 'alaykum u salam wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatu, ya Abu Juwairiyah

Here is the answer to your first question from Nur 'Ala Al-Darb Fatwas:

quote:
Sujud-ul-Shukr is like the Sujud (prostration) in Salah, Sujud-ul-Sahw (Prostration of Forgetfulness), and Sujud-ul-Tilawah (Prostration of Recitation).

quote:
It consists of one Sujud in which a person may say: "Subhana Rabbi Al-A'la" (Glory be to my Lord, the Most High). Then a person may praise Allah and thank Him for the blessings He has bestowed upon them, be it health, child, victory or triumph for Muslims, and other similar matters that please Muslims. The Prophet (peace be upon him) prostrated in thankfulness (to Allah). Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) did the same when he was informed of the conquest of Al-Yamamah and the death of Musaylimah Al-Kadhdhab.

According to the correct scholarly opinion, it is permissible to perform Sujud-ul-Shukr even if the person is not in a state of Taharah (ritual purification). When a person receives good news, they may perform Sujud-ul-Shukr even without being in a state of Taharah.

Likewise, Sujud-ul-Tilawah is like Sujud-ul-Shukr; when a person recites one of the Ayat-ul-Sujud (Qur`anic verses of Prostration), they may perform one Sujud, even if they are not in a state of Taharah, according to the more correct of the two opinions maintained by scholars.

In all kinds of Sujud, including Sujud-ul-Tilawah, Sujud-ul-Shukr, and Sujud-ul-Sahw, a person says what they say in Sujud in Salah: "Subhana Rabbi Al-A'la," "Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbana wa Bihamdik. Allahumma ighfir li" (Glory be to You, O Allah, our Lord, and praise be to You. O Allah, forgive me), and "Subbuhun Quddusun Rabbul-malaikati wal-Ruh" (Perfect and Glorified (He is), Lord of the angels and the Ruh, i.e. Jibril).

A person may say a similar good Du'a` (supplication) that Allah makes easy for him. In Sujud-ul-Shukr, the worshipper should thank Allah a lot for the blessing with which He has endowed them. In Sujud, the worshipper may also say: "Allaahumma laka sajadtu wa bika aamantu wa laka aslamtu sajada wajhee lilladhee khalaqahu wa Sawwarahu wa shaqqa sam'ahu wa baSarahu bi hawlihi wa quwwatihi tabaaraka-llaahu ahsanul-khaaliqeen." (O Allah! To You I have prostrated and in You I have believed, and unto You I have submitted. My face has prostrated to Him Who created it and fashioned it, and brought forth its faculties of hearing and seeing through His Might and Power. Blessed is Allah, the Best of creators.)

Such a Du'a` may be said in Sujud in Salah, Sujud-ul-Tilawah, and Sujud-ul-Shukr besides saying Subhana Rabbi Al-A'la, which is a necessity. The worshipper should say in all kinds of Sujud, such as Sujud-ul-Tilawah, Sujud-ul-Shukr, Sujud in Salah, and Sujud-ul-Sahw: "Subhana Rabbi Al-A'la" at least once, though it is preferable to say it three or five times.

BaarakAllaahu feek akhee. The du'aa's mentioned above can probably be found in Fortress of a Muslim (Hisnul-Muslim). As for the last one, it reads in the Arabic version of the fatwa on al-Ifta:

اللهم لك سجدت ، وبك آمنت ، ولك أسلمت ، سجد وجهي للذي خلقه وصوره وشق سمعه وبصره بحوله وقوته ، تبارك الله أحسن الخالقين
