Asalaamu alaykum

I would like to know the ruling around the Friday khutbah. Is it obligatory to attend and listen to it or is it sunnah? I know the friday prayer is obligatory but, what is the ruling on the khutbah? Baraka Allahu feekum.

Wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh.

It is obligatory on all sane, adult, Muslim males who are not travelling, sick, or in fear of harm to attend and listen.

Refer to the last three verses of Soorah al-Jumu'ah and their tafseer.

BarakaAllah feek. Sorry akhi I should have mentioned also that there is no masjid upon the sunnah in the area. Is it still the same in this case ? jazakumAllahu khayran.
