A series of preferred opinions of al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen

Introducing, bi idhnillaah, a selection of preferred opinions of the Imaam, al-Allaamah Aboo Abdillaah Muhammad ibn Saaleh ibn Uthaymeen, which he chose and as the preferred opinion on different fiqh issues during his explanation of "Zaad al-Mustaqni" (a treatise on Hanbali fiqh), which is entitled "as-Sharh al-Mumtiý alaa Zaad il-Mustaqni".

Over 900 of these preferred opinions are collected in a book entitled "Tawjeeh ur-Raaghibeen ilaa ikhtiyaaraat as-Shaykh ibn Uthaymeen" by Muhammad adh-Dhiyaab.

I had previously presented about 30 of these opinions as separate posts, hence it was not easy to find them and refer back to them. In this post I will connect them together and continue with the rest... Inshaa Allaah

And all success lies with Allaah.

Using gold and silver utensils for other than eating and drinking.

The preferred opinion of al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen:

"The correct opinion is that using them for other than drinking and eating is not haraam because the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) prohibited something specific, namely eating and drinking. If other than these two things were also haraam then the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) would not have specified something and left something else out, while he was the most eloquent of the people and the clearest in speech. Rather his specifying eating and drinking is a proof that other uses are allowed, since people may benefit from then in other ways. And if they were unrestrictedly haraam the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) would have ordered their breakage, just as he (sallallaahualaihi wasallam) did not leave any images except that he broke them. And if something is impermissible in every circumstance then there is no benefit in its existence."

The appropriateness of saying "ghufraanak" upon coming out from the toilet.

The preferred opinion of al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen:

It is said: the appropriateness is that when a persons bodily harms have been removed, he remembers the harms of his sins, so he calls upon Allaah to remove the harms of sins, just as He blessed him in removing his bodily harms. So this is the appropriate meaning from the aspect of remembering something due to something else.

The Shaikh said, "And the first is correct." (i.e. the saying of Ibn ul-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) above.)

Leaning on the left leg during fulfilling ones needs (going to the toilet).

The preferred opinion of al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen:

"As long as the issue is not an established Sunnah from the Prophet (sallallaahualaihi wasallam), then resting naturally on both legs is preferable and easier, and in any case the issue is one which is referred back to medical opinion."

Grasping the penis and shaking it after urination.

Al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen says while discussing this issue,

"These two issues (grasping and shaking) which have been mentioned here resemble what has been mentioned by some of the ulemaa, namely that is necessary to shake (the penis) in order to expel any remaining urine. Some of them said it is necessary to stand and walk a few steps (to expel any remaining urine) while others have said it is necessary to rise up to a higher level and then to come down quickly."

The preferred opinion of al-Allaamah ibn Uthaymeen:

"And all this is from whispers which have no basis to them, and the deen, and all praise is due to Allaah, is easy."
