I know I have seen a similar question somewhere else, but I can't recall where.  Can somebody direct me insha'Allaah?

If not, can someone please bring an answer from the people of knowledge?

THE QUESTION:

quote:
A Muslimah fell in love with a kafir. She knew she should not marry him unless he converted but he was not interested. She went ahead and married him anyway, with the hopes he would convert later. He did end up converting and now they are very serious in the deen. But some people are telling her that since she married him while he was still kafir, that made her a kafir and she now needs to retake her shahada. Is this true?...Does she need to retake her shahada even though she has asked Allaah to forgive her for marrying this man before he converted? Some are saying they BOTH need to retake their shahada.  What is their status?

?The marriage contract made between the sister and her husband (who was a kaafir at the time) is null and void.  If she decides to continue to live with him, then it [the marriage contract] has to be renewed.

The action that she has done is a great sin, and is unallowable.  She made a mistake and must seek repentance.

It?s not allowed for a Muslim woman to marry a man from the people of the book.  Rather, it is allowed for a Muslim man to marry a woman from the people of the book.?

Answer given by Shaykh Ahmad al-Waasaabee, Imaam of Shaykh Muqbil?s Masjid (Hafitha-hullaah)
