I'm writing to find out more information concerning going to the colleges and universities here in the States (mainly due to the fact that one has to take courses such as philosophy and other studies that promote disbelief. as well as the issue of free mixing with the opposite sex, in most if not all of the existing learning facilities).
I have heard the positions of Shaykh 'Uthameen, Shaykh Ibn Baz, Shaykh Muqbil (may Allaah have mercy upon them all), Shaykh Yahyaa al-Haajoree, and Shaykh Fawzee al-atharee.
I have also read the position of the the Permanent Committee in this regard as well as in regards to working in free mixed environments...
***** may someone reiterate these and/or other stances in case something was omitted, or misunderstood, as well as for those who these fatawa has not reached *****
I'm truly writing this to get a better understanding of how this prohibition (of working and going to school under the circumstances mentioned above) is to truly be implemented in a society were free mixing is nearly impossible to avoid from post secondary schooling, to work, to traveling, etc...
Also if there does exist a permission due to necessity to work in this type of environment, why doesn't it apply to attending school?
this question is not only for myself, but for those from amongst our noble brothers and sisters who even went as far as estalishing salafee organizations within the colleges themselves, and those going to school with the intention to secure their places overseas, or those who want to establish their own business, or a job with a high paying salary in order to aid the Muslims in general, rather that be by way of charity or by providing jobs. [and indeed success is from Allaah]
