as salaamu alaikum wa rahmutullaah,

It would be of a great benefit if some of the Talibul 'Ilm, or those with access to the writings of Ahlul 'Ilm could solve an issue for us in the west.

We would like to know who from the people of knowledge has held the position that we in the west (USA) are to follow the moonsighting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia?

It is apparent that there are those who have a daleel for a local sighting and those who have a daleel for the international sighting, however many in the west follow the sighting of the moon for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and totaly disregard any other nations sightings, thus creating a 3rd position.

we would like to know if there is any daleel for this 3rd position?

A quick response would end much confusion here as in the states many follow the local sighting for Eid al-Fitr yet thier fiqh changes to international sighting by Eid al-Adha.

Jazzakullaahu Khierah,

Insha Allah we can hear the answer in Arabic and in English from Shaykh Abdullah Al-Bukharee hafidhallah.  Click on the link:

Preparation for Ramadaan

Press on the link for side B.  Go to the point in the audio 20:56 for the beginning of the Arabic and 31:32 for the beginning of the English and you will hear the question that was asked and the response of the shaykh.

May Allah increase us all in ilm.

Assalaamu alaikum
