As-Salaamu AlaiKum,

I am posting the following question on behalf of a sister from Egypt.
She asked me a few questions that i don't have the exact answers to.

She asked;
quote:

As salaamu alaikum

I would like to know of any lectures about what to look for upon getting married, not once youre married how to make it a good one, but you know the common problem of these times, how two people met and in a weeks time or a little less or more than that, they marry without truely knowing anything at all about each other? Is there any lecture which you know of, that speaks about this issue in its true light ?

please respond as this is urgent

may Allah reward you with good.

as salaamu alaikum wa rahmatuallahi wa barakaatuh

If anyone has any replies for this sister?

Jazakallah Khair.

I would also like to add that i gave her some information like a number of ahadeeth, etc.

She mentioned the following reply

She said
quote:

The links most to all of them i'm aware of aswell as the ahadeeth , jazaakAllahu khair. and the links or references do not have to be in english, they can be in fusha aswell no problem.

If you ever in the near future hear of a book, lecture or anything on the specific topic of (i) the period of marriage which is the investigation , (ii) how it should be proceded upon and what questions and concerns should be put forth , and (iii) what is important over other matters, as this exact situation is what i need for someone.

She also said
quote:

Also, i asked a student of knowlegde from madinah about the sit down, which the two people see each other, and he said to me that this is done AFTER you have investigated the person and are almost sure that their deen and character is upon that which you desire for marriage. This point i also need evidence for, as i see the wisdom, but a friend of mine do not, as is a common trend in the west that they look before they invesitage, he advised saying such, and added that this is why you would find a man marrying a women for how she looks rather than her religion, which is what is most important, wa Allahu ta'ala a'alam.

She mentioned that she lives in cairo egypt.
If anyone has any answers for her queries (in this post or my last post above.. both are connected).

(she mentioned that she has not been able to register on SalafiTalk so i am posting her questions here for her).

  As salaamu 'alaykum,

Go to www.salafiaudio.com -> Family & Marriage -> A guide to Marriage by Shaykh Muhammad al-Anjaree ... hope this helps!

quote:

"A lecture about how to attain a successful marriage. The shaykh talks about how to choose the right marriage partner, closeness between husband and wife and how it is related to Taqwa (righteousness and Fear of Allah) and Imaan, etc."

Some months back, I had listened to one lecture by brother Dawud Adeeb hafithahullaah on engagement and related topics on one of the paltalk rooms. It dealt with what is permissible during engagement and other aspects. I am not able to recollect the exact title of the tape but InshAllaah that would help atleast a little bit in this situation. It was from the 1990s.
