As-Salaamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,

I'm interested in what the 'Ulemah have said regarding this Abu Hamid al-Ghazali, since I only see sufees pushing him.

al-Hamdu-Lillaahi Rabbil-'Aalameen was-Salaatu was-Salaamu 'alaa
Ashrafil-Anbiyaa?e wal-Mursaleen, wa ba'd:

as-Salaam 'alaykum wa-Rahmatullaahi wa-Barakaatuhu,

In the explanation of Aqeedat ut Tahaawiyyah, Imaam ?Ali ibn Abi Al ?Izz says regarding Abu Hamîd Al Ghazzaali

quote:

Al Ghazzaali just managed to escape. When he indulged in Divinity and scholastic discussion, he landed into chaos. Then, quickly realising the error, he abandoned the old path, renewed his faith in the traditions of the Prophet, and died with Saheeh Bukhaari on his breast.

My Question to the tullaabul ?ilm is that whether Abu Hamîd Al Ghazzaali is considered from the scholars of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaa?ah or not after his recantation like Imaam Abul Hasan Al Ash'ari?

wassalaamu 'alaikum.

as-salaamu 'alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuh,

I'll appreciate it if someone can tell me whether the following books regarding al-Ghazzali are OK:

1) His Tafseer of the Qur'an (in 'Urdu)
2) "Some Moral and Religious Teachings of  al-Ghazzali" by Syed Nawab Ali.

A friend gave me both books and I always kept them away believing al-Ghazzali was like Syed Qutb, al-Hasan al-Banna, etc, till I noticed some authentic sources quoting him (Ghazzali).

JazakumAllahu khayran,
Sadiq.
