A short but highly beneficial & wonderful speech by Brother Moosaa Richardson via www.TROID.org حفظهم الله اجمعين (posted on their behalf):

Benefit: Is the Criticism (of a Scholar) Rejected, Since He Used to Recommended the One He Refutes?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

The opinion circulates today: "The criticism (of a scholar) is rejected, since he used to recommended the one he now refutes!" Is this a principle established and practised by the scholars of old? Is a student of knowledge immune from crticism due to his resume of valuable works? Or is this a false-principle used to dissuade the unsuspecting Muslim from safety and clarity? Abul-'Abbaas Moosaa Richardson discusses this issue drawing upon examples of the Scholars of olden times such as Imaam Ahmad Ibn Hanbal and Yahyaa Ibn Ma'een. (An academic response to a complaint regarding the benefit below: Hiding behind Al-Albaanee, Ibn Baaz, Ibn 'Uthaymeen?) [See link for article.]

Brother Moosaa حفظه الله mentions a good point at the end of this: those who work by this principle should first apply it to themselves - since they now reject the works of a scholar whom they used to approve of & recommend! Allah-ul-Musta'aan.
