As-salaamu alaikum

The announcement was just made, Tomorrow Sunday September 20, 2009 is the first of Shawwal 1430.

The Shawwal crescent was also sited in the UAE, Kuwait and Jordan.

Does anyone have any advice for people in the UK? As we have no religiou authority, should we look for the moon ourselves or should we go with saudia? Someone in our jama'ah questioned why we were following saudia (he is hostile towards them as he is sufi) and why not pakistan or turkey as most of the jama'ah is from these countries and I did not have a good response for him.

Is the sunnah to go to a high place and look for ourselves? (We have a place called the glastonbury tor which is perfect for moon sightings
