السلام عليكم Does anyone know of any rulings given about Talking on Web Cams. I want to know if it takes the rulings of picture making? Can someone, who is close to the 'Ulema, please ask about this matter for me? BarakAllaahu feekum

Sheikh Muhammad al Banna was asked this question about using web cams to see your family back home and he said that it does not fall under picture making since it is a transfer of the picture like a mirror and as long as one does not record the video. Allaah knows best.

Building upon this, would recorded TV programs for Da'wah purposes be deemed Haraam since they are recorded and not live? Baaraka Allaahu feekum.

12 Safar 1426 I asked Sheikh 'Ubayd ibn Abdillaah al Jaabiree regarding using a video camera to record lectures of scholars for the da'wah and the sheikh said he does not see the validity of using a video camera for this purpose as it is sufficient for the people to hear the scholars speak. Allaah knows best.

Assalaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuhu, Is there a difference of opinion among the 'ulamaa in this issue since there are many Videos of the 'ulamaa available. Also I read in an article from Imaam al Albaani(rahimahullaah)(Al-Asaalah Magazine, Number 10, Page 40)
| quote: |
The television today is 99% sinful, dissolute, [full of] immorality and unlawful sinning, and so on. It is possible that 1% of it shows things that some people benefit from, but the predominant case is to be given consideration. So when a true Muslim state exists which places beneficial and knowledgeable programs for the [Muslim] nation [on the television], then in that case I do not say that the television is permissible; rather I say that it is obligatory!

InshaAllaah a clarification in this issue is very much necessary. BaarakAllaahu feekum, wassalaamu 'alaykum

are webcam transmissions really "live trasmissions", like live video? it seems that they involve the sending of a series of captured images, which is clear when using a cheap webcam and slow connection speed...

na'am there is difference of opinion regarding using videos for da'wah purposes. Sheikh Muhammad al Banna said last week that if there is a greater benefit in using the video over the harm then he sees that it is allowed. He mentioned the narration of Umar ibn Khattab radiallaahu 'anhu that the knowledgeable one is not the one who knows only the halal and the haram but he is the one who knows the best of the two halal's and worst of the two harams. He went on to say about 20 years ago he was asked to perform the prayer according to the sunnah and to be recorded as many people are not praying according to the sunnah. So he agreed for the greater benefit and kept saying May Allaah forgive me, may Allaah forgive me, this is what he saw as the greater good. Allaah knows best.

Assalaamu 'alaikum , What about using Web Cams to look at the girl (or the boy) for the Marriage proposal considering that they both stay in different countries & since exchanging photos is not allowed? BaarakAllaahu feekum, Wassalaamu 'alaykum,
