as salaamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

bismillaah..

may Allaah bless you, what is the correct usage of kunyas? i was told that when introducing yourself to an individual, its best not to say, my name is [insert kunya]...because the kunya is regarded as something of high status and respect. rather, another person should be calling you by such nickname. this is also taking into consideration the fact that the companions generally used their first names (i.e., 'Umar, 'Uthmaan (radiallaahu ta'aala 'anhum jami'aan)).

jazaakumullaahu khayran.
