Boycotting One Who Does Not Boycott The Innovator

Author:Shaykh Muqbil ibn Haadee al-Waadi'ee

Reference: Al Ajwibah as sadeedah fee Fataawa al Aqeedah. P.169

We know that boycotting the people of innovations is an obligation if they insist on their innovations, however is it correct to boycott one who does not boycott the innovator? He does not act upon what they act upon, but he mixes with them and does not boycott them.

Before we respond to this, Hajr used to be practiced rarely at the time of the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه و سلم), then people started practicing it more often, how is this?

For example: There is an innovator and you believe that if you call him to Allaah he may return [to the truth] and if you left him or boycotted him, he may increase in his misguidance, or different sects may snatch him up. You should look at the benefit of Islaam and the Muslims and not boycott him for your personal gains.

The messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه و سلم) said:

The Muslim has five rights over a Muslimıı

Amongst them is:

When you meet him, greet him [with salaam].

However if you believe that if you boycotted him he would return to Allaah the Elevated and repent, then boycott him.

And Hajr as you have heard (The Regulations of Hajr) was practiced rarely at the time of the Messenger of Allaah (صلى الله عليه و سلم). He boycotted the three companions who stayed behind and did not participate in the battle of Tabuk, he boycotted his wives for a month and he boycotted the one who covered himself in Khalooq, wa Allaahu Mustaıaan.

So it is not befitting that we practice Hajr often so as not to be the reason why people turn away from the Sunnah and the khayr .

What is left [to say is]:-Boycotting the one who does not boycott an innovator? You have exceeded, may Allaah bless you, you have no evidence that we should boycott the one who does not boycott the innovator.

Even the example:The one who does not consider a kaafir to be a kaafir, is to be declared a kaafir. This example is not inclusive. Rather the one who doesnıt consider the kaafir who is a disbeliever by consensus to be a kaafir, he is the one who is to be declared to be a kaafir , such as if one says:A Jew is not a kaafir or a Christian is not a kaafir, then the likes of this one disbelieves, because he is a denier of the Quraan, and indeed Allaah has declared them to be disbelievers in the Quraan. However, if someone says that the one who abandons the prayers is not a kaafir, and another one says that he is, then this is an issue that our scholars have disagreed upon.
