Supplications Upon Breaking the Fast & Responding to the Mu'aththin

Questioner: Is there any supplication reported from the Prophet sallAllaahu ?alayhi wa sallam and the Companions, may Allaah be pleased with them, at the time of breaking the fast? Should the fasting person repeat what the Mu?aththin says, or continue breaking his fast?

Shaykh Uthaymeen: The supplication at the time of fasting is most likely to be answered, because it is at the end of an act of worship, and in most cases, a human self is at its weakest point just before he breaks his fast. The weaker a person is physically, and the more tender-hearted, the greater is his feeling of repentance and humility towards Allaah, the Almighty, the All-Powerful.
The supplication which is reported from the Prophet sallAllaahu ?alayhi wa sallam is:

اللهم لك صمت و على رزقك أفطرت

(Allaahumma Laka Sumtu Wa ?Ala Rizqika Aftartu.)

?Oh, Allaah! For Your sake I have fasted and with Your sustenance I have broken my fast.?[1] **

When he broke his fast, the Prophet sallAllaahu ?alayhi wa sallam also said:

ذهب الظمأُ، وابتلت العروق و ثبت الأجر إن شاء الله

(Thahabath-Thama'u Wabtallatil-?Urooqu Wa Thabatal-Ajru In Sha? Allaah.)

?Thirst has gone, the arteries are moist, and the reward is sure, if Allaah wills.?[2]

Although there may be some weakness in these two Ahadith, some of the Scholars have declared them to be Hasan; and in anycase, if you supplicated using these words or any others words that came to your heart when breaking your fast, then it is most likely to be answered.

As for answering the Mu?aththin when a person is breaking his fast, it is lawful, because of the saying of the Prophet sallAllaahu ?alayhi wa sallam:

إذا سمعتم المؤذن فقولوا مثل ما يقول

?If you hear the Mu?aththin, then say what he says.? [3]

applys to all situations, except those which there is some evidence to show otherwise.

Hadith regarding the dua of the fasting person
http://www.salafitalk.net/st/printthread.cfm?Forum=24&Topic=2801

from the article above , it was mentioned
quote:

2. Another narration with similar wording is found in the Silsilah (#1797) from the Sunan of Al-Bayhaqee.

I'd like to know the actual matn for the hadith above?( silsilah as saheehah 1797)
barakallahu feek

from another source

quote:

At the time of breaking the fast, it is recommended to
supplicate to Allaah with all that one wishes of good,
because the Prophet (sal-Allaahu `alayhe wa sallam)
said:

((Indeed, the supplication of the fasting person at
the time of breaking the fast is not rejected))

Shaykh Ibn Fawzaan
al-Mulakhkhas al-Fiqhee - Volume 1

and also, what is the level of authenticity of the hadith below?

quote:

Abdullah Ibn `Amr Ibn al-`Aas also reported that the
Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam,
said: "Indeed there is for the fasting person, when he
breaks his fast, a supplication which is not
rejected".
[Ibn Majah & Al-Hakim].

Assalamu'Alaikom

When is the time to make the duaa of breaking the fast?

Before putting the date in your mouth?

While eating the date and the date is still in your mouth?

After eating the date?

Jazakallahu khairan

Amma ba'd

I was informed by more than one student of knowledge - may Allaah preserve them and have mercy on those whom they relay from - that this narration (below) is actually "weak", as declared by Shaikh Al-Albanee (rahimahullaah) in Irwaa al-Ghaleel (no. 921) and in Da'eef Targheeb wa Tarheeb (no. 582) and in other books as well.

So it is not authentic as I had falsely stated. It is weak. If I caused anyone any inconvenience due to this or any other matter, then I ask you not to hold it against me on the Day of Judgement. All Praise is for Allaah, Who has guided me and surrounded me with those who advise for the sake of Allaah. Al-Hamdulillaah.

Invocation for Breaking the fast - declared "Weak"

quote:
Allaahumma inee as`aluka birahmatikal-latee wasi'at kulla shay`in an taghfira lee

Meaning: O Allaah, I ask you by Your mercy, which encompasses all things, that you forgive me.

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
