AsSalaamu'Alaikam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatu Alhamdulillaah Allaah Most High made it possible for me to help out at my local salafi masjid by standing outside with a bucket collecting money for the masjid. Later on I was told by a brother that collecting money in this manner was not from the sunnah as Muhammad(Sallahu alaihi wa sallam) would announce to the people to donate for certain things and that possibly collecting in this manner is imitating of ahlul-bid'ah. So I am bit confused surely the people are aware that the money being collected will be for the upkeep of the masjid and/or dawah purposes, so if there is any information on this issue plz post. BarakAllahu Feekum Wa Salaamu'Alaikam wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatu -------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the authority of Aboo Hurayrah, may Allaah be pleased with him, from the the Prophet, sallallaahu 'alayhi wasallam, that he said, Al-Islaam started strange, and will again return strange as it started, so Toobaa is for the Strange ones. In another narration, it was said, Oh messenger of Allaah, who are the Strange ones? He said, Those who rectify when the people corrupt," and in another wording, Those who rectify what the people have corrupted from my sunnah.

Asalamu'alaikum We had a link up with Our Noble Shaykhs Zaid bin Haadee & Muhammad bin Haadee, and this question was asked. We asked can we have someone collecting donations after salat-ul jumuah because it was said that this as an innovation. Shaykh Zaid bin Haadee replied (translated by Abdul Ilah Lahmamee): This is from the acts of good (good deeds), so long as you dont have any harm from those in authority (i assuume he means police, etc). For this is an act of birr. So long as if you have promised that it is going for a particular purpose, then it is used for that purpose. Allah says "Help one another to Birr and Taqwa" Also the shaykh said as long as the ones collecting or gathering it, are trustworthy, and put it in the right place. The shaykh also said dont make the people feel un easy when collecting (such as other masaajid). And as for it being a bidah, then even the Prophet (may Allah's peace be upon him) sought charity off the people. And the shaykh also said you should seek the advice of the ulema as to where to put it, or use it. Full lecture in arabic and translation will be for sale soon inshallah at the website: www.salaficentre.co.uk
