...Would you please share with the readers of this forum: 1.What EXACTLY is the book Aslu Sifatis-Salaatin-Nabee? 2.How important it is to the student of knowledge?  Maybe this answer can also be placed in the student of knowledge section.

The great scholar, al-'Allaamah Muhammad Naasir ad-Deen al-Albaanee (may Allaah have Mercy on him) wrote many great books in various sciences.  From the very best of them was "Sifat Salaat an-Nabee" (The Prophet's Prayer Described - sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam, a very unique and extremely beneficial book that testifies to his true scholarship.

This masterpiece of fiqh was written as an asl (base text or original) and a mukhtasir (an abridgment), and then as just a matn (short text without commentary).

About the Abridgement

The abridgement was translated into English more than 15 years ago or so.  It has been re-printed many times and can still be found in many bookstores.  Readers of the abridgement (in Arabic or its translations) enjoy the point by point discussion of the actions of the prayer paired with exhaustive mention of the sources for each statement.  It has wonderful points about the importance of following the evidences and shunning taqleed, including a gathering of the statements of the well known imaams about blindly following the math-habs.  For over a decade, people all over the world could only wonder - If THIS is the abridged version, what must the original be like?!  He referred to an asl (original unabridged) version of the book throughout, yet it had remained in manuscript form.

About the Unabridged Original

Then it came just about three years ago, in 1427 (2006).  It is now printed as "Aslu Sifat Salaat an-Nabee", the "unabridged original".  The word "asl" in the title distinguishes it from the previously printed abridged verison which was printed without any indication that it was not the original on the cover.

It is massive, at times expounding for pages and pages on one part of a hadeeth and its sources, or positions held by the scholars and critical discussions of them.  Most of the pages of the book have only one or two lines of the matn ("text", see the following) with the rest of the page full of commentary.  It is over 1000 pages printed in three volumes.  It is very important since it contains many never-before-published discussions of hadeeths that the scholars differ over.  Students and scholars may have come accross these narrations in the past (in the abridged version) and wondered how the shaykh could have considered the hadeeth acceptable, and it is in this book that the shaykh supports his arguments in the finest detail.

About the matn

The matn, or the basic "text" of the book, which is entirely based on hundreds of hadeeths woven together, without commentary or sources mentioned, has been printed alone in the third volume of the "asl" (pp.1045-1082) in just under 40 pages.

These are some things I know about this amazing book, and Allaah knows best.

I'd like to add that the book was a refreshing "shift of focus" from the style of many fiqh books of basing the discussion on a math-hab, determining which position is most correct according to the math-hab, etc. The focus is shifted to a clear, easy and rational discussion of simply "What did the Prophet do?" (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam), written by an authority on hadeeth and its sources.

I believe that Sa'd ar-Raashid of Riyaadh owns the rights to the book, so the only printing available is his: Maktabah al-Ma'aarif.  As mentioned, the book has only just recently been published.  I have never seen any other printings.  And Allaah knows best.
