Assalaamu 'alaikum, I teach Makoa Kali and MakoaJitsu (BJJ) here in Oregon. The majority of my student base are Brothers. We train as realistically as possible, given the fact that we cannot hit one another in the face. Over the years several questions have popped up more than twice: 1) Can we brothers use protective facial equipment and strike each other? (I actually teach a non-headhunter skill set--as facial strikes aren't all that effective anyway) 2) When protecting yourself (in real life-on the street as it were), can we strike our attacker in the face? 3) When training with aluminum training knives--are there any sunaat involved with pointing the blades at each other we need to address--is similating a cut or a stab related to this, etc.? And any other issue you may think of---Please can someone address these queries to the appropriate 'Ulema--and/or People of Knowledge who may have an idea of the nuances involved in reality based martial skills and get back to me. Thank you all so much---wa jazakumullah Khayr Abu Hamza Makoa Combatives Group Portland, Oregon "It is enough knowledge that one fears Allah, it is enough ignorance that one be impressed by his own knowledge" Masrooq(rahimahullah)

Assalaamu 'alaikum, Thank you for your reply, wa jazakallahu khayr. I do, however need the specific questions answered. Insha Allah we are hoping someone in touch with the 'ulema can inquire for us. This involves the livelyhood of several brothers who teach martials arts for a living and we are hoping to correctly guide them to what is better with proper information. If you or anyone you know can inquire, it would be so very appreciated. Abu Hamza Makoa Combatives Group Portland, Oregon
