Topic: Co-operating upon Birr and Taqwa?

Assalamu 'Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

Can one of our Brothers please ask the Scholars the following Question:

Some of the Hizbiyoon (Partisans), say that it's permissable to co-operate with the Kuffar and the innovators.  They cite the well known ayah from the Qur'an:

quote:

"Help you one another in AlBirr and AtTaqwa (virtue, righteousness and piety); but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is Severe in punishment."
(Al-Ma'idah 5:2)

Clearly this ayah does not allow co-operation with the innovators as stated by the permenant committee of Major Scholars:

quote:

"What is obligatory is to co-operate with the Jamaa'ah that proceeds upon the manhaj (methodology) of the Book and the Sunnah and that which the Salaf of the Ummah were upon in calling to the Tawheed of Allaah, the One free of all imperfections, and making worship purely and sincerely for Him, and warning against shirk and innovations and sins, and to advise the Jamaaahs that are contrary to that.

So if they return to what is correct, then they are to be co-operated with. But if they persist upon being contrary then it is obligatory TO KEEP AWAY from them and to adhere to the Book and the Sunnah.

Then co-operation with the Jamaaah that adheres to the manhaj (methodology) of the Book and the Sunnah will be upon everything that is good, righteousness and obedience to Allaah whether gatherings, conferences, lessons or lectures and in everything containing benefit for Islaam and the Muslims."

Furthermore, those who use the aforementioned ayah, say that it is permissable to even co-operate with Communists, Marxists, Athiests etc etc. provided that this co-operation is upon 'righteousness'.

I request the tullab ul 'ilm on this forum to refute their assertion, and not just state the correct interpretation of the ayah in (Surah Ma'idah).  It would be ideal if they could present this question to our 'Ulamah.

In sha'Allah, hopefully this thread could be used to bring more kalam from the 'Ulamah on this very important issue.

Barrak Allahu Feekum
