It would appear that the title of this post is in need of further clarification since the Shaykh - hafidhahullaah - was asked about those imaams of masaajid in America who hold that the kind of "hearing and obeying" that is due to them is like that which is due to the Rulers and Scholars and this is the point that the Shaykh addressed. However, as it pertains to the affairs of the masjid itself (which may range from its physical maintenance to protecting the community from some kind of harm or opposition to the Salafee manhaj), is it not the case that some level of obedience is due to the Salafee administrations of the masaajid in America (and the West)? While this may be clear to everyone, I think the title here may be edited to better reflect the nature of the question that was asked to the Shaykh.
