Topic: Halal Chicken

  Assalamalaikum Brothers and Sisters,

I wanted to know if it is permissible in islam to eat the non halal chicken by only mentioning Bismillah when living in a non muslim country? Though halal chicken is available even if a little bit far.
I am new to islam and I have chosen the salaf way to accomplish my deen and definitely have couple of questions that I can't find the answers in the books. May Allah guide us all and jazaak Allah Khayr for your answers.
Assalamalaikum Brothers and Sisters,

Jazaak Allah Khayr

wa 'alaykumus-salaamu wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh...

Welcome to Islam - may Allaah bless you and make you firm!

Non-halaal would mean that its haraam.  I believe you mean: meats (chicken, beef, lamb, etc. from what can be halaal to eat when slaughtered properly) that you are not sure are halaal or not.

The meat slaughtered by the Muslims is clearly halaal.

The meat slaughtered by the Jews and Christians is clearly halaal. (See the opening verses of Soorah al-Maa'idah).

The meat found in the marketplaces of non-Muslim countries where it could possibly have been slaughtered by a Muslim, Jew, or Christian, and, thus halaal - or it could possibly have been slaughtered or killed by an athiest, a buddhist or a satan worshipper, and thus haraam... What should we do with it?

So long as there is a possibility that it could be haraam, we avoid doubtful matters in our religion, as our Prophet (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) said, what means, "Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt."

And he said, what means, "The halaal is clear, and the haraam is also clear.  Between the two are things are grey areas that many people do not know about.  So anyone stays on guard against those grey areas will surely remain safe in his religion and his honor will stay intact.  But whoever delves into the grey areas will fall into the haraam, like the case of a shepherd who continually lets his flock graze right near a border (he is not supposed to transgress)..."

Both of these hadeeths are in a small compilation called "Al-Arba'oon an-Nawawiyyah" (The 40 Hadeeth of an-Nawawi), which would be a great book to pick up to learn some basic and important hadeeths.  May Allaah bless you.

People spend more money on certain healthy products, sometimes because they are organic, sometimes because they are made of top quality ingredients, and sometimes for other reasons.  Shouldn't we be more willing to pay a little more for meat from the Muslim butcher (or Jew or Christian) for some safety in our religion?

And Allaah knows best.

As salam aleikum ua Rajmatullahi ua barakatuh

Allah subhana ua ta'aala blessed me with Islam and with living among a Muslim comunity in EU, Alhamdulillah.

Well, my question is about meat in a country where there does not exist a strong Muslim comunity. For example, in my country there are not many Muslim people, maybe 500 in all the country, and they live in different parts of the country. When I visit my family in my city I can't find a single one Muslim; I think I'm the only Muslim there, so my family buy meat from the market. I don't know if it is from a Jew or Cristian -my country in general is Cristian-. If I refuse to eat they will think that I spurn them - plus other things that i do for Islam- because for them this is very important, and I have afraid that they run from my call to ISlam, Allah knows best. And for the Muslim who are living there and who can't find a islamic, Jew or Cristian botcher, what can they do?

baraka Allahu fikum

ua salam aleikum

As Salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Baraka Allahu feeka for your reply, May Allah reward you in this life and the next, ameen.

your advice was very beneficial for me.

wa alaykum salam

Upon a Muslim is to hear and obey, in times of difficulty and in ease, in the disliked things (to which one disapproves of) and in likeable things (to which one shows zeal), and when self-preference is made against him.

  As Salaamu alaykum

I just want to add akhana that your reply is clear and straight to the point. I gained sigh of relief whilst reading it. I been adhering to the tradition meat slaughtered by the muslims for many years now. Although i would never prevent my family from purchasing poultrie from regular supermarket due to the permissiblilty of eat'n the meats of ahlul kitaab.
However, i carry with me doubts regards what meats are exactly marketed in the supermarkets thats from known nasraanyyoon. Although i say i would eat from an amish christian and yahudi before i purchase regular poultries in a kuffar established supermarket.

Jazumullahu Khayrah
wa ihsanullah illaka

Your Brother Fiddeen,

Hassan Muhammad
