Shaykh Saalih al-Luhaydaan hafidhahullah was asked the following question in his lesson in al-Masjid an-Nabawee dated 10/23/1418H,

"A student of knowledge sits with Ahlus Sunnah and with the people of innovation and he says: The Ummah has already split up enough and I will sit with everyone."

So the Shaykh replied with his statement:
"This one is an innovator. The one who does not differentiate between the truth and the falsehood and claims that this is for the unity of the Muslims, then this is an innovation. We ask Allah to guide him."

The above Q&A with Shaykh al-Luhaydaan hafidhahullah is also quoted in the book "Baraa'ah Ulamaa il-Ummah Min Tazkiyah Ahl il-Bid'ah wal-Mudhammah" (The Innocence of the Scholars of the Ummah from the Commendation of the People of Innovation and Censure). Please click here and see page no. 23.

It should be noted that the book, after compilation was sent to Allamah Saalih al-Fawzaan who checked over it and made recommendations, and also suggested an improvement to the title of the book. Then it was read by Imaam Muhammad bin Saalih al-Uthaymeen (rahimahullaah), who made his own written notes on the pre-print copy that was sent to him. Thus, both of these scholars endorsed the contents of this book. To see the screenshots please refer

Shaikh Muqil said in Answer to Questions from France

"And when you warn against the innovators and the hizbiyeen they say: "You slander the people!" say to them; Oh you fools! Does Shubah bin al-Hajjaj, Yahya bin Sayd al-Qattan, Yahya bin Maeen, al-Bukhaari and Abu Hatim and Abu Zurah, these are the leading Imams of Hadith, slander the people? Or do these innovators and hizbiyeen know they have been criticized then say: "It is not allowed to talk about people!" I say: Yes, do not slander Muslims! But the religion is advice, once you know that the people do not know they are Sufi, then you clarify the case. Or you know they do not know that they are hizbi, you clear up the case. Or you know he got on a plane and went to France to steal money from the Muslims. Tell the people they did not come for our benefit, but for the dirham and the dinar.

So the Religion is Advice the leaders of the people of Sunnah were unanimous on the permissibility of criticism and praise. Then die, O Muflisoon, and Sururiyoon, O People of Associations, die in your rage! And praise be to Allah, the tapes of criticism and praise have come to the United States and then you know that they have reached the depths of the lands of Allah. I therefore advise the brothers to be on their guard until they know their aqeedah and that of the people of Sunnah.

قيل للإمام الأوزاعي رحمه الله ان رجلا يقول أنا أجالس أهل السنة وأجالس أهل البدع .. فقال رحمه الله ..هذا رجل يريد يساوي بين الحق والباطل .

Mubashshir ibn Ismaa'eel al-Hablee said, "It was said to al-Awza'ee(d. 157H), 'A man says: I sit with Ahlus Sunnah(People of Sunnah) and I sit with Ahlul Bid'ah(People of Innovation).' So he (al-Awza'ee) rahimahullah answered, 'This man wants to make the truth and the falsehood equal."

After mentioning the above narration under the chapter "Warning from accompanying the people who cause the hearts to become sick and pollute the eemaan", Imaam Ibn Battah(d.387H) commented,

"al-Awzai has spoken the truth and I say indeed this man does not know the truth from falsehood & he doesn't know kufr(disbelief) from eeman(faith) and concerning this the Qur'an was revealed and the Sunnah of Mustafa sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam was revealed and Allaah said, [Surah Baqarah 2:14] "And when they meet those who believe, they say: 'We believe,' but when they are alone with their Shayateen (devils - polytheists, hypocrites), they say: 'Truly, we are with you';..." (al-Ibaanah 2/456)

Can someone confirm if Imaam Sufyaan ath-Thawree also has a similar saying like that of Imaam Awza'ee?

JazaakAllaah khayr.
