Question: 'Abdul-Mun'im Al-Leebee, the chairman of the Qur'aan and Sunnah Society, now lives in our city, in Toronto. Some of the members of his organization are here as well. We heard that you have warned against him and his organization, however, they claim that this is not true. So we are seeking clarification from you regarding this man, 'Abdul-Mun'im Al-Leebee, and his organization, as they are now in our city. Response:

RAISED in hopes that the advice of Shaykh Rabee' (who has met Abdul-Mun'im and dealt with him personally) will sink in... in hopes that we might actually implement as-salafiyyah by heeding the words of our senior scholars who have dealt with a specific issue like this based upon knowledge, may Allaah preserve them, as our brothers from the du'aat, like Aboo Tasneem and Aboo Uways, have done some time ago... in hopes that some of our brothers who are confused about these matters but occasionally visit ST will benefit and realize that those who call them to ignore these words of Shaykh Rabee' are inviting them to leave the specific jarh of an 'aalim who is specialized in jarh and ta'deel and qualified to speak on this issue, they want you to leave clear bayyinah in the affair for the speech of some of the ignorant followers of the organization or some general tazkiyahs based on husn ath-thann from other shuyookh, and this is the way of the hizbiyyoon, as our shaykh has said on many occasions... RAISED so that our brothers might reflect about the insight of our Shaykh Rabee', may Allaah preserve him, when he said:

عن ابن مسعود -رضي الله عنه- قال ُْقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: {اوثق عرى الايمان الحب في الله والبغض في الله} (Awthaqu 'uraa al-eemaan al-hubb fillaah wal bughd fillaah) 'THE FIRMEST HANDHOLD OF EEMAAN IS LOVE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH AND HATE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH' (The above taken from the footnotes of 'Husool al Ma'mool bi-sharh Thalaathatil Usool' of Shaikh Abdullaah bin Saalih al Fawzaan: Taken from at Tabaraani's 'al-Kabeer' (pages 10357, 10531) and Shaikh al Albaani makes the hadeeth Hasan in his Ta'leeq of kitaab Al-Eemaan of ibn Abi Shaybah (page 45)). ٍShaikh al-Albaani mentions in his footnotes to Kitaabul Eemaan of al Haafidh Abu Bakr Abdullaah bin Muhammad ibn Abi Shaybah (195 - 235H). Hadeeth Number 110: Narrated to us ibn Fudhayl on the authority of Layth(1) on Amr bin Marah that al-Baraa said that the Prophet said: 'THE FIRMEST HANDHOLD OF ISLAAM IS LOVE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH AND HATE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH'. (1)He is ibn Abee Sulaym and he is weak and Ahmad narrated it (4/286) from a different tareeq from him, on the authority of Amr bin Marah on the authority of Mu'aawiyah bin Suwayd bin Maqran on the authority of al-Baraa. And the isnaad (chain) which is after it (i.e hadeeth no.111) is mawqoof saheeh, and it comes in the form of marfoo' on the authority of ibn Mas'ood. As what comes in the explanation of the hadeeth (134). Hadeeth Number 111: Narrated to us ibn Numan on Maalik bin Migwal on Zubaid on Mujaahid who said: 'THE FIRMEST HANDHOLD OF EEMAAN IS LOVE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH AND HATE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH'. Hadeeth Number 134: Haddathanaa Zaid bin Hubaab on as-S'aq bin Hazn al-Bakree (2) who said that He صلى الله عليه وسلم said: THE STRONGEST HANDHOLD OF EEMAAN IS LOVE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH AND HATE FOR THE SAKE OF ALLAAH. (2)He is from the Atbaa at-Taabieen and he is Thiqah, so the hadeeth is mu'addal, and at-Tabaraani brings it in a connected form from this same wajh on the authority of as-S'aq from Aqeel al-J'adee from Abee Ishaaq al-Hamdaanee from Suwayd bin Ghaflah on the authority of Abdullaah bin Mas'ood Marfoo (raised to the Messenger) with the hadeeth. And Al-Haakim authenticates it and adh-Dhahabee opposes him. But at-Tabaraani brings it in al-Kabeer with another isnaad on the authority of Abdullaah bin Mas'ood in a marfoo form and it is HASAN. Especially after what has passed, as a witness for it in the hadeeth of al-Baraa (no. 110). This message was edited by ayn.yaqidhah on 10-9-03 @ 5:51 PM

sorry for not including the original footnotes: [1] On the authority of Al-Baraa' ibn 'Aazib, may Allaah be pleased with him, the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alayhe wa sallam) asked the Companions, "Which of the handholds of Islaam are firmest?" They replied, "Prayer." He said, "Good, and what else with it?" They said, "Fasting in Ramadhaan." He said, "Good, and what else with it?" They said, "Jihaad." He said, "Good, and what else with it?" He then said, "Verily the firmest of the handholds of Eemaan are loving for the sake of Allaah and hating for the sake of Allaah." It was collected by Imaam Ahmad in his Musnad (#18524, 30/488) with a dha'eef (weak) chain by way of Layth ibn Abee Sulaym, however it is considered hasan by way of other supporting narrations found in the Musannaf of Ibn Abee Shaybah and Shu'ab Al-Eemaan of Al-Bayhaqee. Refer to Saheeh At-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb (#3030, 3/165-166) of Al-Albaanee.
