Using as proof (for something being the truth) that which
Most of the people are upon without looking at
What they themselves are upon.

Sheikh Muhammad ibn AbdilWahhab-rahimhulaah-said in his book ıAspects of the days of ignoranceı:
The Fifth Masıalah: From their greatest principles was that they were deceived by (following) the majority, using that as proof against the correctness of a matter. And they also used as evidence for declaring the falsehood of something, the fact that it was strange and that its adherents were few. So Allah prescribed the opposite of that and He clarified this in many places in the Qurıaan.
Our Noble Sheikh the Aalim Saalih AlFawzaan said in his explanation to the above passage:
Verliy they used as evidence for something to be the truth the great number of people that where upon this, and they used as evidence for something to be false the small number of people that where upon this, so that which the majority of the people where upon according to them was the truth, and that which the small number of people where upon was not the truth, and this was their scale in knowing the truth and the falsehood. And this is incorrect, for Allah the most high mentions:
{and if you were to obey most of those upon the earth they would
misguide you from Allahıs path}[AlAnaam:116]
And he the most high says:
{But most of the people do not know}[Aıraaf:187]
And he the most high says:
{And we did not find for most of them any covenant, but indeed
Most of them defiantly disobeyed}[Aıraaf:102
And other than this (from verses), so the scale (that we go by) isnıt by large numbers nor the fewness, but the scale is the truth, so he who is upon the truth-even if they are only one(person)-then he is the one that has attained correctness, and he is the one to be followed and taken as an example, and if the great majority are upon falsehood  then it is compulsory to reject them and not be deceived by them, for indeed that which is to be considered is the truth, and due to this the Scholars says: ıThe truth is not known by the men, but indeed the men are known by the truthı so he who is upon the truth then  he is the one to be followed.
And Allah the most high-in him informing us about the previous nations-informed us that the small numbers in some situations are upon the truth, like he the most high said:
{But none had believed with him, except a few}[Huud:40]
and also in the narration in which the nations where put forth to the Prophet, and he saw a Prophet and with him was a group of people and he saw a Prophet and with him was one man, and two men, and Prophet that had no-one with whatsoever. So great numbers of followers on a particular madhab or a particular stance, so that which is considered is either truth or falsehood, so that which is the truth even if only a small of people are upon this or even if no one is upon this as long as its the truth then it should be taken hold of and stuck to for it is salvation, and falsehood is not aided by its great number of followers ever!! And so this is the scale that is compulsory upon the Muslim to always take.
And the Prophet said ((Islaam started as something strange and it will return as something strange just as it began)) and this is when evil, trials and misguidance becomes abundant, and when no one shall be left upon the truth except the Ghurabaa from the people, so they will become strange ones within their societies, and the Messenger was sent while the world was delving into disbelief and misguidance, so he called the people, and only a person and two replied to his call until it reached the extent in which they became many. And Quraish-and even all of the Arabian peninsula, and the rest of the world- were upon misguidance, and the Prophet by himself was calling the people, and those that followed were little in contrast to the rest of the world
So great number are not considered, but that which is considered is that which is correct attaining the truth, Yes, if the great number are upon the truth then this is good, but it is the way of Allah that the great number is upon falsehood
{And most of the people even if you were to strive (for their guidance) are not believers}[Yuusuf:103]
{And if you where to obey most of those upon the earth they would misguide you from Allahıs path}[Anaam:116]
