Misleading Statements
by: Sheikh Muhammed bin Umar bin Salem Bazmoul

Note: This treatise is originally a lecture conducted by the Sheikh and contains over 25 misleading statements spread by individuals with the purpose of supporting hizbee views and ideologies. We have only translated one statement mentioned and explained by the Sheikh (may Allah preserve him).

In The Name of Allah -The Merciful, The Bestower of His Mercy

Misleading Statement: This scholar is not from the senior scholars!

Sheikh Muhammed Bazmoul commented: This statement is mentioned by some individuals if they wish to reject speech mentioned by a particular scholar, or if they wish to deter people from listening to or taking from that scholar, especially if what he said is pertaining to forbidding evil, or warning against innovation and correcting fault.

Indeed this statement is incorrect and it is a product of the shayton in order to deter from the truth and acceptance of it.  It is a rejected for several reasons:

1.The origin (principal) is that speech is not rejected based on who the speaker is, rather the criteria for accepting or rejecting speech is based on its agreement to the truth or not.  If the speech is in accordance with the truth, we accept it, and if it is not, it is rejected.  As for rejecting speech merely because the speaker is not from the major scholars, then this is incorrect because it opposes the principal: Truth is not known by men.
2.The fact that a person is from the senior scholars does not mean that all his speech is true, and the fact that a scholar has not reached the level of seniority does not mean that his speech is incorrect.  Similar to this has come by way of Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him): There is none from amongst us except that his statement is accepted or rejected, except the one in this grave. (The Prophet Muhammed salAllahu alayhi wa salem)  (This informs) that the matter must be returned to the proofs mentioned by the scholar making the statement, and its agreement with the truth or disagreement.
3.This statement is a deterrent of the people from the scholars and abandonment of their rights.  As long as the scholar (who mentioned something not in accordance with their -people of innovation- desires) is not known by them, or they have no concern for him, or he is not famous (to them).
4.This statement is ill treatment of the rights that must be preserved toward the scholars, and treatment of them according to what is apparent of their situation in accordance with The Quran, Sunnah and that which the Salaf as Saleh were upon.
5.This statement has become a tool used for destruction by the people of innovation.  They use it to reject the speech of Ahlu Sunnah wal Jamaa.  Every scholar that refutes something that the people of innovation fall into, or a mistake that they persist to commit, they reject this scholars refutation with this statement and they warn against him by stating: He is not from the senior scholars! While it is incumbent to oppose the people of innovation and to warn against their ideologies that wage war against the truth and its people.
6.The meaning of this misleading statement is that no one has the right to refute the mistake that those callers have fallen into; weather they be individuals or groups, except one who they hold to be from the senior scholars.  This is not correct and opposes the general statement of The Messenger salAlahu alayhi wa salem- Whoever sees something wrong, then change it with his hand, if he can not, then with his tongue, if he still can not, then he should hate it within his heart, and that is the weakest of faith
7.Allah has ordered that affairs are taken back to the scholars of The Book and the Sunnah, they are referred to as the people of Thikr, but Allah did not place a condition that they be famous or from the senior scholars.  Allah said: {We have not sent before you (Muhammed) except men that we revealed to them revelation.  So ask (you pagans of Mecca) the people of thikr (those that were given the books before you) if you do not know} surah an Nahl:43
8.When a scholar refutes innovation or a mistake that a man has fallen into, he is in fact informing of that persons situation, and the statement of a reliable individual must be accepted as long as it is not in opposition to an equal statement (of praise).  It is not a condition that the scholar informing of the innovation or mistake is famous or from the senior scholars.  This condition was not at all mentioned by the Imams (scholars of the past) for the acceptance of someones statement, and therefore using this (misleading) statement would be in opposition to what the scholars have established.
9.The present state of the individual(s) making this statement informs and proves that he merely intends to support his innovation and abandon rejection of it.  This is because if you were to approach him with the speech of the senior scholars in rejection to his innovation or an incorrect statement, or in clarification of someones mistake, you will find that he will reject the statement of the senior scholars, but he would do so with other (misleading) statements such as:

"Oh my brother, this scholar is influenced by those around him.
"Oh my brother, do not investigate peoples beliefs or mistakes.
"Oh my brother, speaking against or correcting a famous person is   extremely difficult.
"Oh my brother, I am not obliged to accept the speech of this scholar.

&and other statements similar to the above.

The result being: The individual continues upon his falseness, (people) continue to call to that individual and his innovation and the callers to falsehood increase, multiply and sparkle at the cost of the Sunnah and its people. (These callers to falsehood) deceive the masses and the people of the truth are no longer known so the truth which is present with them is no longer sought and as a result, the people no longer know the Sunnah. Truth is viewed as falsehood, and falsehood is viewed as truth!

Indeed there is no change or strength except by Allah, and from Him we come and to Him we will return.  (pg 56 -58 Dar Al Imam Ahmed Print)
