Assalaamu 'alaykum. Does anyone know of any narrations from the salaf ussaalih or past scholars using the "Salafee" name? If the narrations has chain then it would be good if the authenticity of the chain is mentioned, if you don't know the authenticity just the narration would be fine. Also include the source please. Since one brother is rejecting that the salaf used the "Salafee" name [he has issues with Salafis.] JazaakAllaahu khayran.

Assalaamu alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakaatuh

By Imaam Muhammad Naasirud-Deen al-Albaanee Rahimahullaah

Listen to the Imaam of Salafiyyah recount his encounter with a man who does not feel that it is obligatory for one to ascribe himself openly to the truth ý the madhhab of the Salaf.

When a man knows his ownself, speech of the people is of no benefit to him!

Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu 'ala rasulullaah
Amma ba'd

Wa 'alaykum u salam wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatu,

Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) told his daughter Fatimah,
quote:
"...I am a blessed Salaf for you."
(Bukhari, Muslim)

Imaam al-Awzaa'ee [d. 157H, rahimahullaah] said:
quote:
"Adhere to the narrations of the Salaf (the Prophet and Sahaaba), even if the people were to abandon you. And beware of the opinions of people, no matter how much they beautify it with speech."

Imaam al-Asbahaanee (d. 535H, rahimahullaah) said:
quote:
"The sign of Ahlus-Sunnah is that they follow the Salafus-Saalih and abandon all that is innovated and newly introduced into the Deen."
[Al-Hujjah fee Bayaanil Mahajjah 1/364]

Ibn Taymiyyah (d.728H, rahimahullaah) said:
quote:
"There is no criticism for the one who proclaims the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf, who attaches himself to it and refers to it. Rather, it is obligatory to accept that from him by unanimous agreement (Ittifaaq) because the way (madhdhab) of the Salaf is nothing but the Truth (Haqq)."
[Majmoo al-Fataawaa 4:149]

Shaikh Ibn Baaz (rahimahullaah) was asked: What do you say about someone who calls himself "Salafi" and "Athari"? Is he praising himself (i.e. tazkiyah)?

Shaikh Ibn Baaz said:
quote:
"If he is truthful in that he is an Athari (follower of the narrations) or a Salafi (follower of the Salaf), then there is nothing wrong with this, as this is what the Salaf [rahimahumullaah] would do, since they would say, 'So and so is Salafi...So and so is Athari.' This is a tazkiya (recommendation) that is required. It is a tazkiyah that is obligatory."
[From a lecture called "The Right of the Muslim" recorded in Taa'if on 1/16/1413H]

There's much more on this topic here:  The obligation to distinguish one's Islam, and its proofs!

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
