Clarification Regarding Our Recitation Of The Qur?aan

Chapter: 18 ? Part Three ? Our Recitation Of The Qur?aan

By ?reciting? here in Part Three, we are referring to speaking and uttering the words of the Qur?aan. It has already been mentioned that the Qur?aan is the speech of Allaah, not created. However, as for our uttering the Qur?aan, is it correct to say that this is created, not created, or is it required to remain silent on this issue?

The answer is that as for making a general, absolute statement either way is not correct.

As for making a specific, detailed statement, then if what is meant by ??Speaking? is simply uttering the words, which is the action if the servant, then it is created because the servant and his actions are both created.

( The proof of this is the saying of Allaah, the Most High:

æóÇááøóåõ ÎóáóÞóßõãú æóãóÇ ÊóÚúãóáõæäó

?And Allaah has created you and whatever you do? [Surah as-Saaffaath :37 , Ayah 96 ]   )

[Note:- Ibn Katheer rahimahullah said:

(Worship you that which you carve) meaning, `do you worship instead of Allah idols which you yourselves carve and fashion with your own hands'

æóÇááøóåõ ÎóáóÞóßõãú æóãóÇ ÊóÚúãóáõæäó

(While Allah has created you and what you make!) This may mean, `Allah has created you and what you do;' or it may mean, `Allah has created you and what you make.' Both views are synonymous. The former is more apparent because of the report recorded by Al-Bukhari in the Book Af`al Al-`Ibad from Hudhayfah, attributed to the Prophet :

«Åöäøó Çááåó ÊóÚóÇáóì íóÕúäóÚõ ßõáøó ÕóÇäöÚò æóÕóäúÚóÊóå»

(Allah has created every doer of deeds and what he does.) Thereupon he recited:

    æóÇááøóåõ ÎóáóÞóßõãú æóãóÇ ÊóÚúãóáõæä ]

However, if what is meant by ?speaking? is that which is spoken (the actual words ), then it is none other than the speech of Allaah, and not created. This is because the speech of Allaah is one of His Attributes and none of His Attributes are created.

There is a statement of Imaam Ahmad that indicates this. He said,

?Whoever says, ?My speaking with the Qur?aan is created? and he means by that the actual Qur?aan, then he is a Jahmee?

His statement ? and he means by that the actual Qur?aan? indicates that if what is meant is NOT the actual Qur?aan, but rather the mere uttering of the words which is an action of the people, then he is not a Jahmee, and Allaah knows best.

Is The Qur'aan Allaah's Speech? Or Is It Prepared by Allaah?

Zakir Naik makes the Tafseer of his own statement -This will clarify if this Jahmee Aqeedah that is spread for a decade is just slip of tongue!

quote:
So Allah says, that these are your letters! With your letters which you are so proud of, I (Allaah) have produced the Holy Qur?aan.

Note:- The following statements are taken from Zakir Naik?s Own Website

b.Creator prepares an instruction manual

Suppose I manufacture a tape recorder, do I have to become a tape recorder to know what is good or bad for the tape recorder? The manufacturer does not have to himself play the role of a tape recorder to understand the stress caused by normal usage or even faulty usage of the tape recorder.

Hence, for the users, as the manufacturer, I write an instruction manual. In this manual I state, ?in order to listen to an audio-cassette, insert the cassette and press the ?play? button. In order to stop, press the ?stop? button. If you want to fast forward press the ?Fast Forward? button. Do not drop it from a height for it will get damaged. Do not immerse it in water for it will get spoilt?. Manufacturers write an instruction manual or a user manual, which contains the do?s and don?ts for usage of the machine.

c.   The Glorious Qur?an is the instruction manual for human beings

In a similar fashion, our Lord and Creator, Allah (s.w.t.) does not need to come to earth in the form of a human being to know what is good or bad for the human beings. He, who has created this vast universe, has complete knowledge of His Creation. He only has to reveal the instruction manual for the benefit of humans. Such a manual from the Creator informs and explains: (i) the purpose and objective of the existence of human beings (ii) who created them and (iii) what they should do and what they should refrain and abstain from in order to get eternal success.

The last and final instruction manual for human beings from their Creator is the Glorious Qur?an.

[SIMILARITIES BETWEEN
ISLAM AND HINDUISM ? Part 5
by
Dr. Zakir Naik ]

The Creator prepares the instruction manual:

Suppose I manufacture a video cassette recorder (VCR). Do I have to become a VCR to know what is good or what is bad for the VCR? What do I do? I write an instruction manual: "In order to watch a video cassette, insert the cassette and press the play button. In order to stop, press the stop button. If you want to fast forward press the FF button. Do not drop it from a height or it will get damaged. Do not immerse it in water or it will get spoilt". I write an instruction manual that lists the various do?s and don?ts for the machine.

Holy Qur?an is the instruction manual for the human being:

Similarly, our Lord and Creator Allah (swt) need not take human form to know what is good or bad for the human being. He chooses to reveal the instruction manual. The last and final instruction manual of the human beings is the Glorious Qur?an. The ?dos? and ?don?ts? for the human beings are mentioned in the Qur?an.

If you allow me to compare human beings with machines, I would say humans are more complicated than the most complex machines in the world. Even the most advanced computers, which are extremely complex, are pale in comparison to the myriad physical, psychological, genetic and social factors that affect individual and collective human life.

The more advanced the machine, greater is the need for its instruction manual. By the same logic, don?t human beings require an instruction manual by which to govern their own lives?

[CONCEPT OF GOD IN ISLAM
by Dr. Zakir Naik]

As far as his claim where he says:

quote:
So Allah says, that these are your letters! With your letters which you are so proud of, I (Allaah) have produced the Holy Qur?aan.

Zakir needs to bring a proof as to where Allah Sub'hanahu Wa Ta'aala has stated this as he claimed that 'Allah says'? Tell us the number of Surah and the number of Ayah? Bring a Hadeeth Qudsee at least!

Sub'hanAllaahi Wabi'Hamdihi Sub'hanakAllahummaa Wabi'Hamdika Wa ash-hadu-an'laaIlaaha IllAllaah Wa-Asthaghfiruka Wa Thoobu Ilayk

Bismillaah Alhamdulillaah As-Salatu Wa-Assalaamu Alaa Rasoolillaah

Ijmaa' Of Ahl-us-Sunnah On The Speech Of Allaah

Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa?ah are united upon the belief that Allaah speaks and that His speech is real,  actual attribute affirmed to Him in a manner that befits Him.

He (Sub?hanahu wa Ta?ala) speaks with letters and sound how He wants and when He wants. So His speech is one of His Personal Attributes in itself, and it is also one of His Attributes of action.

Both the Qur?aan and Sunnah have proven this.

Some proofs from the Qur?aan are Allaah?s statements:

And when Moosaa arrived at Our appointed time, His Rab spoke to him. [Surah al-A?araaf, 7:143]

When Allaah said, ? O Eesaa, indeed I will take you and raise you to Myself. [Surah Aali-`Imraan 3:55 ]

And We called him (Moosaa) from the right side of the mount, brought him near, and spoke privately with him. [ Surah Maryam 19:52]

In the first Aayah, there is a confirmation that the Speech is connected to His Will, that it occurs when He Wants.

In the second Aayah, is a proof that it is with letters, because what is spoken consists of letters.

In the third Aayah, is a proof that it is with sound, because the calling and private conversation is only with sound.

From the proofs of the Sunnah is the statement of the Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam),

? Allaah will say, ?O Aadam!? He will respond, ?At your service?. Then He will call out, ?Indeed Allaah orders you to take, from your progeny, a group to the Fire.? ?

[Recorded by al-Bukhaaree(4741) and Muslim(222) ]

And His Speech (Sub?hanahu) consists of both word and meaning; it is not wording alone or meaning alone. This is the belief of Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa?ah regarding Allaah?s Speech.

The methodology of Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamaa?ah is that the Qur?aan is the revealed speech of Allaah, not created. From Him it began, and to Him it will return. He actually spoke with it, making Jibreel responsible for descending with it and revealing it upon the heart of Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam).

Both the Qur?aan and the Sunnah prove this belief.

From the proofs of the Qur?aan is the statement of Allaah (Sub?hanahu wa Ta?aala),

? And if anyone of the Mushrikoon seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the speech of Allaah.? [Surah at-Tawbah, 9:6]

The ?speech of Allaah? here means the Qur?aan.

Another proof is His statement,

? A blessed book which We have revealed to you that they might reflect on its verses and that those of understanding would be reminded ? [Surah Saad, 38:29]

And His Saying:

The trustworthy spirit (Jibreel) has brought it down upon your heart, that you may be one of the warners ? in a clear Arabic language. ? [Surah ash-Shu?araa, 26:193-195]

And from the proofs of the Sunnah, is the Prophet ?s (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) statement while he was offering his message to some people in a particular place:

? Is there no man who will take me to his people so that I may convey the speech of my Rab! For Quraysh have prevented me from conveying the Speech of my Rab (Jalla wa Aa?laa)?

Also, his statement (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) to al-Barraa ibn Aa?zib:

?When you go to bed, say, ? O Allaah, I have submitted myself to You, I have turned my face to You, I have entrusted my affair to You, and I have entrusted my back to You, out of hope in You and fear of You. There is no retreat nor refuge from You except with You. I have believed in Your Book which You have revealed and in Your Prophet which You have sent. ?

Aa?mir ibn Deenaar said:

? I have met the people during seventy years, all of them saying, ?Allaah is the Creator and everything other than Him is created, except the Qur?aan. For it is certainly the Speech of Allaaah, not created. From Him it began and to Him it will return.? ?

The meaning of ? From Him it began ? is that Allaah originally spoke with it (the Qur?aan). It is also a refutation of the Jahmiyyah who say that He created it in someone other than Himself.

As for the statement  ??.and to Him it will return?, it could have two meanings:

Firstly: The attribute of speaking with the Qur?aan returns to Himself, meaning that no one is described as speaking with it other than Allaah because He is the original One Who Spoke with it, and speech is an attribute of the speaker Himself.

Secondly: It (the Qur?aan) will be raised up to Allaah (Sub?hanahu wa Ta?aala) as it is reported in some of the narrations that He will erase it from the books and hearts in one night. That will happen ? and Allaah knows best ? when the people totally and completely abandon acting according to the Qur?aan. So it will be raised up from them as a form of honouring it. Allaah is the One we seek help from.

Bismillaah Alhamdulillaah As-Salatu Wa-Assalaamu Alaa Rasoolillaah

Perhaps This Benefits When You Stand In Front Of Allaah, The Mighty & Majestic

Muhammad Ibn Abdur-Rahman ibn Abbaas informed us, saying: Abul-Fadl Shu?ayb ibn Muhammad ibn Raajiyaan narrated us, saying: ?Alee ibn Harb al Mawsilee narrated to us, in the year 257H, saying: I heard Shu?ayb ibn Harb saying, ? I said to Aboo ?Abdullaah Sufyaan ibn Sa?eed ath-Thawree,

?Narrate to me a saying from the Sunnah by which Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, will benefit me, so that when I stand in front of Allaah, the Blessed and Exalted, and He asks me concerning it, saying, ?From where did you take this?? I will say, ?O my Rab, Sufyaan ath-Thawree narrated this saying to me and I took it from him ?? so that I am saved and (then) you are questioned for it.?
So Sufyaan said, ?O Shu?ayb, this is an assurance and what (other) assurance (can be better than this)? Write ?..

In the Name of Allaah, the Most-Merciful, the Bestower of Mercy.

The Qur?aan is the Word of Allaah. It is not created. It originated from Him and to Him it will return. Whoever says other than this is a disbeliever???

[ The Qur?aan is the speech of Allaah and His Revelation (tanzeel), it is not created in whichever manner it may be written or when it is recited, in whatever place it may be recited, whether it is found in the heaven or upon the earth, however it may be preserved, whether written in the Lawhul Mahfoodh (the Preserved Tablet) or in the copies of the children of the Qur?aanic schools, or inscribed on a stone and written on a paper or leaf, whether memorised in the heart, or spoken by the tongue. Whoever says other than this, or claims that the Qur?aan in the earth or in the heaven is other than the Qur?aan which we recite with our tongues, and which we recite with our tongues, and which we write in the masaahif (copies of the Qur?aan), or who believes this in his heart or who conceals such a belief in his heart, or who professes it with his tongue ? then he is a disbeliever whose blood and wealth is lawful and who is free from Allaah and Allaah is free from him, as has been said by at-Tabaree in his Sareehus-Sunnah pp. 24- 25.

Ibn Abbaas (radhiAllahu anhu) said (about the Aayah):

An Arabic Qur?aan, without any crookedness (therein). [Surah az-Zumar (39):28

?Not created.?
Sharh Usoolul-I?tiqaad (2/217).

Al-Laalikaa?ee said, Sa?eed ibn Naseer said, ? I heard ibn ?Uyainah saying, ?What does this daweeh, meaning Bishr al-Mareesee, say? They said, ?O Aboo Muhammad ibn Aboo Imaraan, (he says) the Qur?aan is created.? So he replied, ?He has lied. Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, said:

Surely, His is the Creation (khalq) and the Command (amr). [Surah al-A?raaf (7):54 ]

So the ?creation? is the creation of Allaah, and the ?command? (amr) is the Qur?aan.?

And Imaam Ahmed ibn Hanbal and Nu?aym ibn Hammaad, Muhammad ibn Yahyaa adh Dhuhlee, ?Abdus-Salam ibn ?Aasim ar-Raazee, Ahmad ibn Sinaan al-Waasitee and Aboo Haatim ar-Raazee said likewise. (Sharh Usoolul-I?tiqaad 2/219). ?Alee ibn al-Hasan al-Haashimee said, ?Whoever claimed that the Qur?aan is created then he has claimed that something of Allaah is created.? So I said, ?O Aboo Sufyaan, how do you say this?? He said, ?Because Allaah, the Blessed and Exalted, says:

? But the word from Me took effect. [Soorah as-Sajdah (32):13 ]

And nothing from Allaah is created.? ? (Sharh Usoolul-I?tiqaad (2/219). Zakir Naik Claim's Allaah Produced The Qur'aan

Zakir Naik Says:

quote:
....Arabic was at its Zenith, the thing that the Arabs were most proud of, was their language, it was the age of literature and poetry, they were excellent in literature and poetry. So Allah says, that these are your letters! With your letters which you are so proud of, I (Allaah) have produced the Holy Qur?aan. He challenges all the human beings, if they want they can take the help of Jinn also, anyone besides Allaah, to try and produce a single Surah like the Holy Qur?aan.....

So is the Qur?aan PRODUCED by Allaah Sub?hanahu Wa Ta?aala? Or is the Qur?aan Allaah?s Speech ? Uncreated , not from Allah?s Creation but rather His Attribute, Inseparable from Him?

The Qur?aan Is The Speech Of Allaah ? Uncreated!

Imam Ahmad said, ?One who takes up theological rhetoric(kalaam) will not Prosper, and will not be free from becoming Jahmiyy.?

Al-Mu?tasim said to him, ?What do you say about the Qur?aan?? He said, ?The speech of Allaah, eternal, not created. Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic, said:

?And if anyone of the Mushrikeen seeks your protection, then grant him protection, so that he may hear the Word of Allaah (the Qur?aan).? [ Soorah at-Tawbah (9):6]

So he said, ?Do you have a proof other than this?? Imaam Ahmad replied, ?Yes, 0 Ameerul-Mu?mineen, the saying of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic:

?Ar-Rahmaan. He taught you (mankind) the Qur?aan.? [Soorah ar-Rahmaan (55):l-2]

And He did not say: ?Ar-Rahmaan. He created the Qur?aan.? And His saying, the Mighty and Majestic:

?Yaa seen. By the Qur?aan, full of wisdom?    [ Soorah Yaa Seen (36): 1-2 ]

And He did not say: ?Yaa Seen. By the Qur?aan (that is) created.?

Saalih ibn Ahmad said, ?My father said to me, ?Ishaaq ibn Ibraaheem said to me, ?Forgive me for being present at your lashing,? so I said, ?I have already forgiven all of those present.? He said to me, ?From where have you said that it is not created??

So I said, ?Allaah said: ??.Surely, His is the Creation and Commandment.? [Soorah al-A?raaf (7):54]

So He distinguished between creation and command.? Ishaaq said, ?The command is created.? So he said, ?0 how free is Allaah from all imperfections! Something created which itself creates creation?!? I said(meaning), ?The created things were created through His command, which is His Saying:

  Be!

It is He Who has created the heavens and the earth in truth, and on the Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) He will say: "Be!", - and it shall become. His Word is the truth. His will be the dominion on the Day when the trumpet will be blown. All¬Knower of the unseen and the seen. He is the All¬Wise, Well-Aware (of all things).[ Soorah al-An?aam (6):73 ]

Abul-Husain Muhammad ibn Abee Ya?laa said: Al-Mubaarak informed us, saying: ?Abdul-?Azeez al-Azjee informed us, saying: Aboo Bakr al-Mufeed narrated to us: Al-Hasan ibn Ismaa?eel ar-Rah?iyy narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Hanbal, the Imaam of Ahlus-Sunnah, the one showing patience at the time of severe trial, said to me:

?Ninety men from among the Taabi?een, the scholars of the Muslims and of the Salaf and the Jurists of the various cities are [unanimously] agreed that the Sunnah upon which the Messenger of Allaah  died is:

quote:
That the Qur?aan is the Speech of Allaah [which was] revealed upon the heart of His Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam. It is not created, in whatever fashion it is recited or rehearsed.

[See their names (Ninety men) and explanations of their sayings and beliefs in the vast book which no Muslim can be without for knowing the way and the sayings of the scholars and the leaders of the Salaf in matters of belief - Sharh Usoolil-I?tiqaad Ahlis-Sunnah wal-Jamaa?ah of the Imaam al-Laalikaa?ee ]

Said the Imaam Of Ahl-is-Sunnah wal-Jam?aa?ah :

And the Qur?aan is the Word of Allaah. It is not created . And he should not be too weak to declare it is not created and that the Word of Allaah is not (something) distinct and separate from Him (i.e., an entity in itself) and that not a single thing from it is created.

And beware of argumentation with the one who innovates  in this matter and says that his recitation of the Qur?aan is created and other such claims.

And whoever hesitates in this matter and says, ?I do not know whether it is created or not created. It is but the Word of Allah.? Then he is a person of innovation and he is just like the one who says, ?It is created. ?

?Indeed it is the Word of Allaah and it is not created.?

Ibn Abee Duwaad came to Imam Ahmed and said, ?0 Ahmad, say in my ear: ?The Qur?aan is created,? So that I may save you from the hand of the khaleefah.? So Imaam Ahmad said to him, ?0 Ibn Abee Duwaad, say in my ear: ?The Qur?aan is the Speech of Allah, it is not created,? so that I save you from the punishment of Allaah, the Mighty and Majestic.?
