Allah states that there is no God but he. The idolators who worshipped others besides Him recognized that He was the sole creator of the heavens and earth, the sun and the moon, alternating the night and day. They acknowledged that He was the Creator Who provided for His servants and decreed how long they should live. He made them and their provision different, so that some were rich and some were poor, and He knew best what was suitable for each of them, who deserved to be rich and who deserved to be poor. So, Allah stated that He has alone created everything, and that He alone is controlling them ? if this is how it is, then why worship anyone else? Why put one?s trust in anyone else? Since dominion is His Alone, then let worship be for Him Alone. Allah often establishes His divinity by referring to their acknowledgement of His Unique Lordship, because the idolators used to acknowledge His Lordship, as they said in their Talbiyah (during Hajj and ?Umrah: ?At Your service, You have no partner, except the partner that You have, and You possess him and Whatever he has.?
æóãóÇ åóÐöåö ÇáúÍóíóÇÉõ ÇáÏøõäúíóÇ ÅöáøóÇ áóåúæñ æóáóÚöÈñ æóÅöäøó ÇáÏøóÇÑó ÇáúÂÎöÑóÉó áóåöíó ÇáúÍóíóæóÇäõ áóæú ßóÇäõæÇ íóÚúáóãõæäó
And this life of the world is only amusement and play! Verily, the home of the Hereafter, that is the life indeed (i.e. the eternal life that will never end), if they but knew. (Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:64)
ÝóÅöÐóÇ ÑóßöÈõæÇ Ýöí ÇáúÝõáúßö ÏóÚóæõÇ Çááøóåó ãõÎúáöÕöíäó áóåõ ÇáÏøöíäó ÝóáóãøóÇ äóÌøóÇåõãú Åöáóì ÇáúÈóÑøö ÅöÐóÇ åõãú íõÔúÑößõæäó
And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allâh, making their Faith pure for Him only, but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship to others. (Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:65)
áöíóßúÝõÑõæÇ ÈöãóÇ ÂÊóíúäóÇåõãú æóáöíóÊóãóÊøóÚõæÇ ÝóÓóæúÝó íóÚúáóãõæäó
So that they become ingrate for that which We have given them, and that they take their enjoyment (as a warning and a threat), but they will come to know. (Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:66)
Allah tells us how insignificant and transient this world is, and how it will soon end. All that it is, is amusement and play:
< Verily, the home of the Hereafter, that is the life indeed, >
means, the true everlasting life that will never end, but will continue forever and ever.
< if they but knew. >
means, they would prefer that which will last over that which will pass away. Then Allah says that at times of calamity, the idolators call upon Him alone, with no partner or associate, so why do they not do that all the time?
< And when they embark on a ship, they invoke Allâh, making their Faith pure for Him only, >
This is like the Ayah,
æóÅöÐóÇ ãóÓøóßõãõ ÇáúÖøõÑøõ Ýöí ÇáúÈóÍúÑö Öóáøó ãóä ÊóÏúÚõæäó ÅöáÇøó ÅöíøóÇåõ ÝóáóãøóÇ äóÌøóÇßõãú Åöáóì ÇáúÈóÑøö ÃóÚúÑóÖúÊõãú æóßóÇäó ÇáÅöäúÓóÇäõ ßóÝõæÑðÇ
And when harm touches you upon the sea, those that you call upon besides Him vanish from you except Him (Allâh Alone). But when He brings you safely to land, you turn away (from Him). And man is ever ungrateful. (Soorah Al-Isra 17:67)
Allah says here:
< but when He brings them safely to land, behold, they give a share of their worship to others. >
Muhammad bin Ishaq reported from ?Ikrimah bin Abi Jahl that when the Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) conquered Makkah, he (?Ikrimah) ran away, fleeing from him. When he was on the sea, headed for Ethiopia, the ship started to rock and the crew said: ?O people, pray sincerely to your Lord alone, for no one can save us from this except Him.? Ikrimah said: ?By Allah, if there is none who can save us on the sea except Him, then there is none who can save us on land except Him either, O Allah, I vow to You that if I come out of this, I will go and put my hand in the hand of Muhammad and I will find him kind and merciful.? And this is what indeed did happen.[1]

Ãóæóáóãú íóÑóæúÇ ÃóäøóÇ ÌóÚóáúäóÇ ÍóÑóãðÇ ÂãöäðÇ æóíõÊóÎóØøóÝõ ÇáäøóÇÓõ ãöäú Íóæúáöåöãú ÃóÝóÈöÇáúÈóÇØöáö íõÄúãöäõæäó æóÈöäöÚúãóÉö Çááøóåö íóßúÝõÑõæäó
Have they not seen that We have made (Makkah) a sanctuary secure, and that men are being snatched away from all around them? Then do they believe in Bâtil (falsehood - polytheism, idols and all deities other than Allâh), and deny (become ingrate for) the Graces of Allâh? (Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:67)

And who does more wrong than he who invents a lie against Allâh or denies the truth (Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) and his doctrine of Islâmic Monotheism and this Qur'ân), when it comes to him? Is there not a dwelling in Hell for disbelievers (in the Oneness of Allâh and in His Messenger Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam))? (Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:68)
æóÇáøóÐöíäó ÌóÇåóÏõæÇ ÝöíäóÇ áóäóåúÏöíóäøóåõãú ÓõÈõáóäóÇ æóÅöäøó Çááøóåó áóãóÚó ÇáúãõÍúÓöäöíäó
As for those who strive hard in Us (Our Cause), We will surely guide them to Our Paths (i.e. Allâh's Religion - Islâmic Monotheism). And verily, Allâh is with the Muhsinûn (good doers)." (Soorah Al-'Ankabut 29:69)

The translation above (which I believe is from the Dar us-Salaam print):

There are two issues with this translation:
1) In English there is a difference between "god" and "God", the first referring to any deity from the creation, and the second, referring to a supreme creator, and master of the universe. From this angle, the above statement (which would be a translation of of "laa ilaaha illa huwa") only goes as far as to affirm Ruboobiyyah for Him.
2) Otherwise, if we ignore the first point above, and assume that "god, deity" (an object of worship) is intended in the translation, then the above translation approximates to Wahdat ul-Wujood, since "laa ilaaha" is not a negation of the existence of other gods, since the gods are many, but a negation of there being any that are deserving of worship (with the exception of Allaah), Hence, saying "there is no god but He" which is exactly the same as what some people translate, "There is no god but God" necessitates that everything that is worshipped by everyone in the creation, then all of that, collectively, is Allaah. | quote: |

The explanation of the Kalimah as "there is no god, diety, but Allaah", implies that everything that is worshipped is but Allaah, which necessitates wahdat ul-wujood, since amongst the people is one who worships the sun, or the moon, or the stars, or the trees, or the rocks, or the dead people, or the wind and rain, and so on. So saying there is no god but He, means the sum total of what is worshipped by the creation, then all of that is but Allaah.
The correct meaning is "there is nothing (no deity, god) worthy of being worshipped (in truth) except Him", since there are many gods in existence that are worshipped, yet the only one worthy and deserving of worship in truth is Allaah.
