Salam, I am new to Islam, a few months, and I am a member of a discusion forum, in it, Salafi's are not held in high regard, when I ask why, I get "they're heretics" "they're not heretics, just misguided", then I ask why, I get no response, so I felt it best to ask Salafi's, what are Salafi's? Why do other, non-Salafi Muslims, regard them as misguided? I've read only a little on Salafi works, and it seems that they only follow the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam), forgive me if I'm doing something wrong, but I'd like to find out more, when it seems all they do are follow the Quran and Sunnah.
Salam, AbuTalib.

Bismillaah Al-Hamdulillaah wa salatu wa salaamu 'ala rasulullaah
Amma ba'd

Wa 'alaykum u salam wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatu, ya Abu Talib,

Beneficial articles on true meaning of La illaaha il Allaah, and the danger of a wrong definition

Here are three beneficial articles on the true meaning of La illaaha il Allaah (which means: there is none deserving of worship in truth except Allaah) with its important conditions, and the grave danger of a wrong definition.

The Meaning and Conditions of Laa illaaha ilallaah [by Imaam al-Haafidh al-Hakamee]

May Allaah bless you.

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.

Assalmu Alaykum, thank you for the response. I have a difficult work schedule, my job being a general manager of a pizza hut here, and so I'm late responding back because of my long hours. I personnaly do not see anything amiss in Salafi works, only a high regard, as it should be, for the Holy Quran and  the Sunnah of the Prophet (sallahu alayhi wa salam). The various other methods that were introduced into Islam do not have a foundation, and should not be followed.
Thank you all for your help, especially the articles, and please, if there is more let me know of which books, websites and any other material, Jazakallah.
Assalamu Alaykum, Abu Talib.

wa 'alaikumussalaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh brother,

You had asked
quote:
Why do other, non-Salafi Muslims, regard them as misguided?
It is mentioned in this thread that al-'Allaamah ash-Shaykh al-Albaanee رحمه الله was asked a question related to yours:
quote:
"Despite the stance that the two Shaikhs, Rabee' Ibn Haadee Al-Madkhalee and Muqbil Ibn Haadee Al-Waadi'ee, have taken in fighting against innovations and the deviant opinions and sayings, some of the youth have doubts as to if the two Shaikhs are upon the Salafee way."
And that he answered:
quote:

"Without a doubt, we praise Allah, the Most High, for preparing for this upright Da'wah, which is based on the Qur'aan and the Sunnah according to the methodology of the Salaf As-Saalih, numerous callers throughout the various parts of the Muslim lands. They are the ones who take charge of the communal obligation (fard kifaa'ee), when there are very few who take this responsibility in the Muslim world today.

So degrading and belittling these two Sheikhs (Rabee' and Muqbil), who call to the Qur'aan and the Sunnah and what the Salaf As-Saalih were upon and who wage war against those who oppose this correct methodology. As is quite clear to everyone, it either comes from one of two types of people. Either it comes from someone who is ignorant or someone who follows his desires... If he is ignorant, then he can be taught. But if he is one who follows his desires, then we seek Allahıs refuge from the evil of this person. And we ask Allah, Mighty and Sublime, to either guide him or break his back."

Here's a link to another bunch of important articles from the troid.org site. These are placed under a section for new Muslims (New & Basics):

The Foundations

More links are on the left hand side of the page.

I know you have more or less been bombarded with articles and what not in the past few days but insha'Allah, you can take them little by little, one at a time. They would insha'Allah, make you more knowledgeable about Allaah and His Religion (True Islaam / Salafiyyah), more steadfast upon the religion, and therefore, more beloved to Allah.

Assalmu Alaykum, thank you brother, I shall take them peicemeal, and it is most appreciated, with this being so new to me, I know a solid foundation is necessary, and the only way is study, application, and Allah"s Blessings.

There is no god but Allah.
