As-salamu 'alaykum wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatu,

Has anyone heard or read from the scholars if we are allowed to call a specific person from mankind a "Shaytan?" Has anyone heard or read from the scholars if calling a human a "shaytan" is synonymous with takfir, or if there is a difference. And if so, whom can one call or not call a shaytan. And for example, if some deviant person today claims he's a "Prophet" - aoodhoobillaah! - can this guy be called a shaytan?

With proofs, of course.

Jazakum Allaahu khairun, wa BaarakAllaahu fikum.

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.

This answers at least one of those questions.

Assalaam alaikum.

Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): ıAnd so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies ı Shayaateen (devils) among mankind and jinnıı Surah al-An`aam (6): 112

This answers the question that the evil amongst men can be called "shaytaan"...And Allaah knows best.

Barak Allaahu Feekum, wa Jazakum Allaahu Khair.

Wa 'alaykum u salam wa rahmatullaahi wa baarakatu, ya Abu Sahal.

Just so there is no confusion, here is that top (first) question again:
quote:
are we (meaning us, non-scholars) allowed to call a specific person from mankind a "Shaytan?"

If you ya Abu Sahal or anyone can forward this question to a scholar and relay the answer, that would be beneficial. Baarak Allaahu feekum.

Jazak Allaahu khairun, ya Abu Sahal for re-bringing this up.
