Assala mu alaykum,

I need one of the Brothers from this blessed forum, to explain to me the meaning of a particular paragraph, from an article from: www.Spubs.com.  I would prefer someone from the salafi maktabah to explain it to me, but any fairly knowledgable brother would do.

The article is in PDF and it is called:

"Part 11: Exposing the Qutubite Ignorance, Deception and Fraud in attempting to Justify al-Haakimiyyah as a Unique Basis For The Da'wah of Reform Formulated by the Asha'rites and Mu'tazili Qadarites of Banee Qutb and Mawdoodi" (Article ID: GRV070030)

Before I bring forward the paragraph, I would like to say that the article is absolutely brilliant!  It is the best article I have read so far, that thoroughly refutes, those Takfeeri idiots who try to put forward 'Tawheed al-Hakimiyyah' as a fourth category of Tawheed.  I would recommend this article to anybody who is interested in understanding this issue, and why the so-called category of 'Tawheed al-Haakimiyyah', is a despicable innovation in the religion?  The article explains all this in beautiful detail!

The bit of the article, that I need an explanation on is, (quote):

"Tawheed is either in Knowledge or action.  And in light of this,the whole of the Salaf are agreed that Tawheed is only either these two categories, or if we break down the Tawheed of knowledge into the Tawheed that relates in the belief and knowledge that singles Him out in his actions (creating, owning, sustaining, providing, giving life, etc.), or which relates to the belief and knowledge that singles Him out in his Names and Attributes.  And thus we have three categories.  These are not two seperate classifications.  they are exactly the same understanding.  And they are not two seperate sets of terminologies.  they are exactly the same terminologies in meaning, except that one of the two aspects of Tawheed, which is that of knowledge, has been explained to be with respect to two issues that constitute it, either Ruboobiyah, or al-asma was-Sifaat."  (End of quote)

I need an explanation of the whole paragraph if its possible, particularly the bit were it goes:

"...These are not two seperate classifications.  They are exactly the same understanding.."

What does that mean?

My apologies for making it so long, but I would really appreciate, someone explainig it to me.

Jazzak umullahu khairan

Assalaamu alaykum. The paragraph means that the two categories that some of the salaf speak with (tawheed in knowledge and action)  and the three categories that others speak with (tawheed ur-ruboobiyyah, tawheed al-asmaa was sifaat, tawheed ul-uloohiyyah)  that they are actually both the same and are not to be considered to be "different classifications from the Salaf". Why because some of the Salaf merely further categorised the tawheed of knowledge into two parts, one that relates to  ruboobiyyah and the other that relates to asmaa was sifaat, adding further detail to the two-part classification.

However, the individual that is being refuted (some Canadian follower of Sayid Qutb), following the false arguments of Abdur-Rahman Abdul-Khaliq tried to portray as if there are  "many different classifications" amongst the Salaf so it is a matter of ijtihaad. To deceive his readers he uses terms to give the impression that there were loads of "classifications" but he is only able to bring the two, or three category examples. But even these two ways of explaining Tawheed, are not two distinct separate classifications, they are actually the same classification, with the only difference that in the three category version, the two types that relate to knowledge have been separated out from each other, instead of being treated as one and the same. This is what this paragraph means.

Tawheed
------> 1) action (of heart and limbs)
------> 2) knowledge,  broken down into ----> a) ruboobiyyah ----> b) asmaa wa sifaat

That of ruboobiyyah is knowledge and belief that is held in the heart that Allaah alone creates, owns, regulates, gives life, takes life, guides, misguides, honours, humiliates, provides and so on. That of asmaa wa sifaat is the knowledge and belief in His Names and Attributes.

So one classification (the three-fold) just branches off from the other (the two-fold), and it provides the same understanding. This means that there is actually only one classification (but with two different ways of presenting it, based upon the amount of detail you wish to give). The Ahl ul-Bidah claim that there are many classifications (so they can justify that it is subject to ijtihaad), and these are just empty words with no substance by which people are deceived.
