Salaam
I would like to know the Salifis view on the status of our Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wasallam) .
I have a few questions but no one to ask. also people are ready to lynch you when all you have are genuine questions.
Was our prophet the best of creation or the best of mankind ?
In surat Bakara Allah swt says to the nearest meaning that he makes no distinction between his messengers. Does this include our prophet or is our prophet the best of the messengers ?
Is it shirk to do something for the sake of our prophet alone i.e if we perform a sunnah can we just think this would please our prophet or should also make intention to please Allah at the same time.
I am a bit confused at the moment.
Salaam

Moosaa

May Allaah raise the rank of His Messenger and grant him peace...

Allaah has preferred him over all of the Creation, as found in Bukhaaree and Muslim.  However, we should not say that Muhammad was better than Moosaa, Yoonus (may Allaah raise their ranks and grant them peace), or any other Prophet by name, out of respect for the Prophets and not to imply in any way that our respect for the other Prophets is deficient.

Here is a link to a very detailed lecture on this topic for further study (in shaa' Allaah):

Perhaps you should quote the translation of the verse you are asking about, so can be sure you read it right.  I think you are referring to the supplication of the believers, that they should make no distinction between the messengers.  The scholars of tafseer have explained that we are not to believe in some of them and disbelieve in others, as done by the Jews and Christians, while we must affirm the special virtues and ranks that Allaah gave some of them over others.

The very meaning of the tawheed that the Messenger of Allaah (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace) spent his whole life teaching was to worship Allaah alone, not seeking by any of our deeds anything from other than Allaah, and to worship Allaah only in conformity with the teachings of the Prophet (may Allaah raise his rank and grant him peace).  So Muslims must do their deeds for the sake of Allaah alone, seeking the reward from Him alone, as He alone is the one who will bring us back to life and question us about our deeds.  So we do not direct any act of worship to any of the (human) Messengers (may Allaah raise their ranks and grant them peace), nor do we seek their pleasure, nor do we feel they are "watching over us" now or that they even know what we are doing.  Even the (non-human) messengers who are actually watching over us right now, meaning the angels, are not to have acts of worship directed to them!

people are ready to lynch you when all you have are genuine questions.

May Allaah bless you.  My advice - stay away from those people.  I hope that some things I have said have helped you.  If you need me to elaborate on anything I have said above, let me know.

And Allaah knows best.

The Status of The Messenger and his rights, by Shaikh Rabee' Ibn Haadee al-Madkhalee

_________________________________________________________________________
The Status of the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam)

Muhammad ibn 'Abdullaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) was a slave not to be worshipped, and a Messenger not to be denied. ['Abdun la yu'bad wa rasulan la yukathab]

As our brother Moosa (hafidhahullaah) explained, no act of worship is to be directed toward the Prophet or any other than Allaah, and nothing besides the reward from Allaah is to be sought from any act of worship.

Muhammad ibn 'Abdullaah (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is the seal of all Prophets, and no Prophet will come after him. The Prophet was not sent to be worshipped, but rather was sent to be followed and imitated and taken as an example. Allaah sent the Prophet with Tawheed (worshipping Allaah alone), and the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) called to Tawheed and refuted shirk for 23 years before dying at the age of 63.

Allaah says (words that mean):
quote:
And indeed it has been revealed to you (O Muhammad), as it was to those (Allaah's Messengers) before you: "If you join others in worship with Allaah, (then) surely (all) your deeds will be in vain, and you will certainly be among the losers." (Az-Zumar 39:65)

Say (O Muhammad to mankind): "If you (really) love Allaah then follow me (i.e. accept Islamic Monotheism, follow the Qur'an and the Sunnah), Allaah will love you and forgive you of your sins. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (Aali Imran 3:31)

Blessed be He Who sent down the criterion (of right and wrong, i.e. this Qur`an) to His slave (Muhammad) that he may be a warner to the 'Alameen (mankind and jinns). (Al-Furqan 25:1)

Believing in Prophet Muhammad (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) means to:
1- Do and command what he commanded
2- Believe in what he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) came with
3- Refrain from and forbid what he forbade, and
4- to not worship Allaah except how he worshipped Allaah

The Messenger of Allaah is our Imam, and we take no one's words over his words, as Allaah said about him in Surat an-Najm (ayas 3-4): Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired.

The Messenger of Allaah is the only human we will be asked about in the grave. The Prophet was not created from noor - as some Soofis and other people of bid'ah deviantly claim - rather the Prophet was a man created from dust, he had a shadow, walked in the market, ate, had relations with his wives, and went to the bathroom.

Say (O Muhammad): "I am only a man like you..." (Al-Kahf 18:110)

And he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) did not know the Ghaib (unseen), except what Allaah revealed to him.

Say (O Muhammad): "I possess no power of benefit or hurt to myself except as Allaah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Ghaib (unseen), I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe." (Al-A'raf 7:188)

Say (O Muhammad): "I don't tell you that with me are the treasures of Allaah, nor (that) I know the unseen; nor I tell you that I am an angel. I but follow what is revealed to me by inspiration." Say: "Are the blind and the one who sees equal? will you not then take thought?" (Al-An'am 6:50)

And he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) was sent to all of mankind:

Say (O Muhammad): "O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allaah - to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. La ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He); It is He Who gives life and causes death. So believe in Allaah and His Messenger (Muhammad), the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e. Muhammad) who believes in Allaah and His Words [(this Qur`an), the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel) and also Allaah's Word: "Be!" - and he was, i.e. 'Iesa (Jesus) son of Maryam (Mary),], and follow him so that you may be guided." (Al-A'raf 7:158)

So the status of the Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) with Salafees (The Saved Sect, The Aided Sect, Ahlus-Sunnati wal Jama'ah, Ahlul Hadeeth) is the status that Allaah and His Messenger commanded us to uphold, baarak Allaahu fik (may Allaah bless you, our dear brother).

The Prophet (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said:
quote:
"Do not over praise me like the Christians over praised the son of Maryam. Indeed I am a slave of Allaah and His Messenger."

And in another hadeeth: he (salallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) said,
quote:
"I am a slave. I eat what a slave eats and sit like a slave sits."

Subhanak Allaahuma wa bihamdika ash-hadu anlaa illaaha illa anta astaghfiruka wa atubu ilayk

If I said anything correct, then it is from Allaah (subhanahu wa taa'ala), and if I erred, then that is from me and shaytan.
