Sayyid Qutb: Al-Hawalis "Shaykh ul-Islaam", al-Awdah's "Imaam of Guidance"

Qutb in 1949, during his pre-Islamist activism days, dressed smartly in the attire of the Disbelievers, at the Wilson Teacher's College, Washington DC. He would move across America, into Denver, Greely, California (San Diego, Paulo Alto) and other places, becoming a member of many Church committees and visiting Church services often (from which he noticed the "looseness" of the American Christian youth). However, he did admit to taking a liking to films such as "Gone with the Wind" and "Wuthering Heights".

Qutb in the later stages of his imprisonment, in his pan-Islamic activism days, following in the tradition of Al-Afghaanee, Abduh and al-Bannaa. He remained dressed smartly, even behind bars, in the attire of the Disbelievers, and still clean shaven (whilst writing in his works that the women who wear the clothes of the Parisian designers are Mushriks, pagans, because they have taken these fashion designers as lords besides Allaah). This was the "Imaam of Guidance" of al-Awdah and the "Shaykh ul-Islaam" of al-Hawali, [Qutb] the Mocker of Moosaa (alayhis salaam) and the Reviler of Uthmaan (radiyallaahu anhu), and the reviver of the Innovations of the Soofee Huloolees and Ittihaadees, the Mu'tazilah, the Ash'ariyyah, the Raafidah and the Khawaarij.

Whilst in America, Qutb wrote articles, and letters sent home, later published in Egyptian periodicals such as ar-Risaalah, and al-Hilaal. There are also documentary materials at the University of North Colorado, where he studied.
