Kissing thumbs when Azhan is called

Q- Is there any basis for kissing the-thumbs when the muadhdhin says ýAsh-hadu anna Muhammadar-Rasool Allahý?

A ý From what we know, (the act of) kissing the thumbs when the Muýadhdhin (caller to prayer) says ýAsh-hadu anna Muhammadar-Rasul Allahý has not been confirmed on the authority of the Prophet (peace be upon him). So kissing them is an innovation (bidýah), and it has been confirmed on the authority of the Prophet (peace be upon him) that he said:
ýWhoever introduces anything into this matter of ours (i.e. Islam) that which is not from it, will have it rejected.ý (Al-Bukhari, no. 2697 and Sahih Muslim, no. 1718)

Seeking forgiveness by the grave

Q- Is it permissible to stand by the graveside and seek forgiveness and supplicate for the deaceased after burying him, and (likewise) to place/throw sand/earth over the grave?

A ý Yes, it is permissible to stand by the graveside after burying the deceased, and (likewise) to place/throw sand/earth over the grave and seek forgiveness and supplicate for him. Rather, this is recommended, as Abu Dawood transmits and Al-Hakim authenticates on the authority of ýUthman (Allah be pleased with him) who narrated that: When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) finished with the burying the deceased he used to stand by him (the graveside) and say:
ýSeek forgiveness for your brother, and beg steadfastness for him, for he will be questioned now.ý

Crying due to illness

Q- I am ill and sometimes I cry because of what happens to me after my illness. Is this kind of crying consider an act of showing displeasure to Allah and not being pleased with what He has decreed? I do not do this intentiouly. Similarly, does ruling also include when I talk to my relatives, telling them about my illness?

A ý There is no harm in crying if it is simply tears coming from the eyes, without wailing. This is based on Prophetýs statement, when his son Ibrahim had died:
ýThe eye sheds tears, the heart grieves but we do not say anything except what is pleasing to the Lord. We are, by you departure Ibrahim, certainly grieved.ý
There are several narrations with that meaning. There is also no harm in talking to your relatives and friends about your disease as long as you praise Allah, thank Him and extol Him, and ask Him for giving you health, following the permissible means. We advise you to have patience and hope for reward from Allah. I give you glad tiding as Allah has stated:

ýOnly those who are patient shall receive their rewards in full without reckoning.ý (Qurýan, 39:10)

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: ýA Muslim is not afflicted with fatigue, sorrow, disease, sadness, or hurt, even if it be the prick of a thorn, except that due to it Allah expiates some of his sins.ý
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) also said: ýIf Allah wants good for a person, he afflicts him with trials.ý
We ask Allaah to cure you and give you health, as well as goodness of the heart and deeds. Verily, He is All-Hearer, the One to accept prayers.
