As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

How do you determine which way to pray using a compass? Years ago I was told we in the US should pray towards Northeast and then I read something that said Southeast. I need clarification please to make sure we are praying in the right direction.

Please explain how to use the compass if you are able.

Wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatullaahi wa barakaatuh,

In US, you do face North-East while praying. Please refer http://prayer.al-islam.com/default.asp?l=eng&countflag=0 for the direction from your city or surrounding places inshAllaah.

From what I remember, it is the misguided Habashee sect which promotes the South-East direction.
