What is the authenticity of the name Hanaa being attributed to Maryam's(Mother of 'Isaa alayhis salaam) mother? I read it in the Ibn katheer english version. Is there proof from the scholars on this being Maryam's mothers name?

Can the Tulaab help me?

wa'alaikumassalaamwarahmatullaah

I have a somewhat vested interest in this as my daughter is called Hannah.

The tafseers of At-Tabaree, Al-Baghawee and Ibn Katheer all mention that Maryam's mother was called:

‎‎‎‎‎‎

Hannah

See the attached file for details.

(Quotes taken from qurancomplex.com)

‎‎‎‎

Hanaa

is another name whose origin I am not aware of.

Adnaan ibn Salmaan

Jazaak Allaahu khairan for the statements from the mufassiroon, however, we still haven't established whether her name was Hannah with a chain of narration let alone whether it is authentic or not.  This is a similar case to Bilqees being the name of the Queen of Saba.  If anybody knows anything with regards to the above that we can affirm these names that would be much appreciated since I've being hearing these names for a long time yet I hesitate to attribute them to these two noble individuals.  Baarak Allaahu feekum.

Akhi, it's very difficult to find an authentic chain of narration regarding matters that would commonly be known in modern terminology as trivial.
The names of Prophet Yusuf's brothers -`alaihi as-salaam...
    The name of Maryam's mother -`alaiha as-salaam...
The name of Propet Nooh's children -`alaihi as-salaam...
The names of the People of the Cave...

These are all things which normally only come from one source:
The narrations of the People of the Book.

It's very difficult to ascertain anything that old, especially since we are the only Nation that is so particular about authenticity.

Also, there is almost no real benefit knowing those things, or them being incorrect, thus you won't find the scholars of Hadeeth dissecting them and analyzing them.

Similar is the way the scholars of Hadeeth deal with Pre-Islamic History and the events that occurred during the beginning of Prophet Muhammad's prophecy -salallaahu `alaihi wa sallam.

The only thing we are able to do is either agree with something that the majority of people agree upon (regarding more popular trivia), or we can disagree with no tangible evidence either way (with less popular trivia).

At the end of the day, the name Hanaa' spelled...

Haa' (like in the word Hidaayah)
    Noon
    Alif
Hamzah (like in the name Asmaa')

... means Happiness, or Bliss or Felicity
