A Righteous Man
Abu Awais Abdullaah Ahmad 'Alee

(Died 25th Ramadhaan 1425H, rahimahullaah)

All praise is due to Allaah, we seek His aid and His assistance and His forgiveness. We seek refuge from the evil of our souls and the evil of our actions. Whomsoever Allaah guides, there is none to misguide and whomsoever He misguides, there is none to guide. I bear witness that there is nothing worthy of worship except Allaah, alone and without any partners, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

To proceed:

The eyes shed tears, there is sadness and grief in the heart, but we only say things pleasing to our Lord. Indeed we are saddened by the passing away of our brother Abu Awais, rahimahullaah.

"Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji'oon."
"Indeed to Allaah we belong and to Him we shall return."

Allaah, the Most Perfect and the Most High, said,

"And give glad tidings to the patient - those who, when afflicted with a calamity, say 'Indeed to Allaah we belong and to Him we shall return.' It is those who will be rewarded with blessings and mercy from their Lord. And it is those who are the guided ones."

(Al-Baqarah 2:155-157)

Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wassallam) said: "To Allaah belongs what He took, and to Him belongs what He gave. Everything is recorded with him for an appointed term.." (Ahkaamul-Janaa'iz of Al-Albaanee)

Muhammad bin 'Ubayd at-Tanaafisee said, "I was with Sufyaan ath-Thawree when a man came to him and said, 'I saw in a dream that a sweet smelling flower was raised up from the West.' Sufyaan said, 'If your dream is true, then Al-Awzaa'ee has died.' So they wrote that down, and later they found that he had indeed died upon that day." And Al-Awzaa'ee died in 157AH.

This day in Ramadaan 1425AH, another sweet smelling flower has been raised from the West, this time from the USA.

Sadaqah bin 'Abdullaah said, "I have not seen anyone wiser, more complete, nor better able to understand what he possessed than al-Awzaa'ee."

I can say I have not known anyone in the USA wiser, more complete, nor better able to understand what he possessed than Abu Awais Abdullaah.

Allaah's Messenger (salallaahu 'alayhi wassallam) said:

"Whoever loves meeting Allaah, Allaah loves to meet him. And whoever hates to meet Allaah, then Allaah hates to meet him."

(At-Tirmidhee, Ibn Maajah, hadeeth declared Hasan by Al-Albaanee)

I pray that Abu Awais is from those whom Allaah loves to meet. In all the time I have known him, I have never seen from him except truthfulness, bravery, honesty, love for the da'wah and its preservation, hatred of that which opposed the Sunnah, he despised liars and loved the people of Sunnah. He never spoke in front of people except that you sensed that he must have thought for many hours before hand. He was wise and trustworthy, never deceptive. There was no hypocrisy in his behaviour, he meant what he said and from what I knew of him, he acted in accordance to his knowledge. He loved his wife and family and those under his care from the children of his wife. Whenever a person was in his presence, he would make you feel comfortable to the extent that one would feel as if he was from his closest companions. He was never afraid to speak the truth and clarify the Salafi manhaj. He was my friend, my brother, my advisor and by Allaah, I will miss him and his company. And we do not glorify anyone beyond or more than Allaah.

I pray to my Lord, Allaah, the Most Merciful, Oft-Forgiving that He showers His Mercy upon my brother Abu Awais Abullaah Ahmad 'Alee and that He eases the pain and the grief of his family and children. Allaahumma Aameen.

And indeed all praise is due to Allaah, Lord of all creation. And may the peace and blessings of Allaah be upon the Messenger Muhammad, his family and his Companions.

May Allaah reward Abu Khadeejah, for verily he has spoken the truth.

And anyone who spent even 1 hour with Abu Awais can affirm all of the above, for it was clearly manifest from him.

May Allaah have mercy on Abu Awais, the defender and supporter of the Sunnah.

May He, the Most High, grant him Firdaws and raise his mention in this dunyaa. For verily he was loved, by every Salafee, by those who knew him and those who did not.

And in the past we used to use him as litmus-test for anyone coming from America. Do you know Abu Awais? What do you say about Abu Awais?

And we would gauge the persons manhaj based on his answer.

Hammaad bin Zayd mentioned that Ayoob (as-Sakhtiyaanee) said, ?When I am informed of the death of a man from Ahl us-Sunnah it is as if I have lost some of my limbs.? (Sharh Usool-Laalakaaee 1/66) (al-Hilyah 3/9)

Bismillah Alhamdulillah As-Salatu Wa As-Salaamu Alaa Rasoolillah. Wa Ba'ad.

"Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji'oon."

Verily, he rahimahullah, was a great benefit to the Salafees in general and the Salafees in the United States in particular. I used to say 'What Abu Talha is to the United Kingdom, so is Abu Uwais to the United States' however I have to say now, 'What Abu Talha is to the United Kingdom, so was Abu Uwais rahimahullah to the United States'. I am deeply saddened by his passing away, may Allah have Mercy upon our brother Abu Uwais.

From what I know, this man has been upon the Salafi manhaj since 1970 and when I met Abu Talha for first time, he informed me that it was Abu Uwais who had first called him to the Salafi Dawah and that he was his close companion who lived together with him in Jamiyah Islamiyyah. And whenever I spoke to Abu Uwais (rahimahullah) he would always ask me if I met Abu Talha, may Allah preserve him.

He has been steadfast in cultivating the community at Masjid Rahmah upon Tauheed and Sunnah, and I hope and pray to Allah that He forgives his sins, and accepts his deeds and increases him in position on the Day which none can avert. Truly, a sweet smelling flower has been raised.

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Aalameen.

Our da?wah and our ?aqeedah is more beloved to us than our own selves, our wealth and our offspring.  So we are not prepared to part with it for gold, nor silver.  We say this so that no one may have hope in buying out our da?wah, nor should he think that  it is possible for him to purchase it from us for deenaar or dirham. Since the politicians already know this about us, so they have despaired of buying it from us with granted positions or wealth..Shaikh, the Allamah, Muqbil ibn Hadee Al Waa'di'ee (Rahimahullah).

Abu Uwais (rahimahullaah) told us:  "There are No Scholars in the West !"

Yet, for many of us stuck here in the United States Abu Uwais was the closest thing we had to being a Scholar, waAllaahu 'alam.

May Allaah give him a high rank in Paradise just as He has given him a high rank in our hearts!

I ask Allah subhanahu to grant the Salafees around the world steadfasteness and patience at this great loss that we all have suffered, and to grant our beloved brother Abu Awais an easy reckoning and open gates of Paradise to enter through, ameen.

AssalamuAlaikum Wa Rahmatullah,

A key memory that many of us from the UK will never forget (Insha'Allah) is a khutbah our brother Abu Awais delivered in July 2000 entitled "The Sunnah is like the Ark of Noah"(Birmingham conference). Subhanallah it was at a time when we were fairly new to Salafiyyah and never really been exposed to the mashayikh or du'aat before. But for anyone who was present in that khutbah will remember the amazing speech and naseehah that Abu Awais brought when commenting upon the statement of Imaam Maalik. By Allah, it was a heart-rendering speech that we would still sit and talk about for years to come. He (Rahimahullah) gave us so much confidence on that day and truly made us strong in belief that verily Dawah Salafiyyah is the truth. This is one of the most influential lectures I have ever been present in and I would recommend anybody to get a copy of this from Spubs, Troid etc. as verily a reminder benefits the believer.

May Allah reward Abu Awais for all the knowledge he has benefited us with and left behind through hundreds of lectures....Ameen.

The Prophet (sallahu alaihi wa sallam) has said,

?When a human being dies, all of his deeds are terminated except for three types: an ongoing charity, a knowledge from which others benefit, and a righteous child who makes Du?a for him? (Muslim)

I pray to Allaah (subhanahu wa ta?ala) that our Noble brother, the Elder Abu Awais (rahimahullaah) gets a portions of this hadeeth. For he has left behind much knowledge, from his translations and his own lectures.

Wa Alaikumus Salam wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu

The death of our noble and elder Brother Abu Awais (Rahimahullah wa Rahmatun wasi'ah) is surely a calamity for the salafiyoon in the west who have benefitied much from his lectures and talks.  I only started to listen to some of his lectures quite recently and the more of His lectures I listened to the more I grew to love my Brother Abu Awais.  The lecture I enjoyed the most and I must have listened to a dozen times was the one he did at atlanta called: 'Unity is sunnah'.  At the end of the lecture in the Q&A session, He started joking with the brothers around him and many times He made me burst with laughter listening to His almost childish jesting; Subhan Allah sometimes it even seemed as if I was actually present at the masjid.  Abu Awais sure had a fantastic sense of humour!  I even recently thought about visiting Newark New Jersey just to see Him and meet the brother face to face and shake his hands.  So His  death was quite a unexpected shock for me and by Allah I haven't felt so sad for a long time. I am sure our Brothers and Sisters in the states must be feeling the same emotions that I'm feeling now.  He will be missed a lot by the salafis.   "Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilayhi raaji'oon."

Our Brother Abu Awais was a fierce supporter of the sunnah and salafiyyah and He gave no quarter to the ashabul bid'ah. And as one of my brothers  mentioned, He was NOT afraid of the blame of the blamers and spoke against those who deserved to be spoken against.  (If only the Hizbiyoon wa ashabul bid'ah had functioning brains to understand, and stopped and thought carefully instead of rushing to give their good deeds away).  And He had precedence from the Ulamah before criticising and rebuking an individual, He based his speech on what the Ulamah said and that was crystal clear when one listened to Him, (If only the Hizbiyoon wa ashabul bid'ah had functioning brains to understand, and stopped and thought carefully instead of rushing to give their good deeds away).  And he strove tirelessly to connect the salafiyoon to their scholars, (If only the Hizbiyoon wa ashabul bid'ah had functioning brains to understand, and stopped and thought carefully instead of rushing to give their good deeds away).

I pray to Allah Azzawa Jal that He Subhanahu wa ta a'la grants my  beloved brother Abu Awais Jannatul Firdaws and forgives his sins and shortcomings and protect Him from the punishment of the grave and the Hellfire.  I also pray that Allah forgives me and and my many many many shortcomings and lets me die as a Muwahhid and a staunch supporter of salafiyyah and grants me paradise  and that He (Subhanahu wata a?la) allows me and my beloved Brother Abu Awais to meet each other in Paradise.

AMEEN.

Inna Lillaahi wa inna ilaihi Raaji'oon!

Indeed this man was a Saahibu Sunnah and a great benefit to the manhaj in the west.

May Allaah allow us to continue to benefit from that which he has left behind by way of recordings and may they continue to be a sadaqa jaariya for him.

His death is a reminder for all of us that no matter how close a brother may be to us, EVERY soul shall taste death.

May Allaah grant us all His safety, security and His paradise when that inevitable moment occurs.  AMEEN!

Indeed We Lose A Warrior!

Praise be to Allah and may peace and blessings be upon the Messenger Muhammad and upon his family and his household.

Amma ba'd,

Indeed from that which brings us immense grief is the news we have recently heard about our noble brother and senior, he who was at the forefront of this blessed da'wah in the west, Abu Uwais Abdullah Ahmad (rahimahullahu ta'ala).

A man who, by Allah, was from the most beloved of the people of sunnah in the west to me, and any companion of sunnah that met him loved him, one who was truly an example for us in the west in da'wah, clarification of the haq, love for Ahlus-Sunnah and their scholars, perseverence upon the afflictions that came to him (the trial he faced with Abu Muslimah is but one example of that) one who was tried with sickness and was patient, one who brings to mind the statement of that imaam of the sunnah Bishr ubnil haarith al marwazi who said: "Indeed I remember Al-Mu'aafaa ibn 'Imraan today and I benefit by remembering him, I remember his sight and I benefit"

I remember from the love of the man for spreading the sunnah and aiding in that, when we were invited to a conference in Philadelphia and he was weakened by his sickness at that period, even though he was hardly able to move and found great difficulty even speaking, he still travelled to attend, though he had more than enough reason to excuse himself, for anyone who visited him in his room and saw his dire condition knows of what I speak.

We ask Allah that he forgives him his shortcomings and rewards him immensly for his great efforts in da'wah. For indeed we all benefitted from the man, not only our noble brothers in Jersey and the surrounding areas but the people of sunnah in the west generally.

So we make dua to Allah that he showers him with his mercy and blesses him with al-Firdous.

Fa innaa lillahi wa innaa ilahi raaji'oon.

Yes indeed he was a warrior. When I last spoke to him several months ago by telephone he was very sick, but he had high spirits and he still gave the khutbah and lessons whilst being extremely weak. He always showed strong and excellent character and was a fine example for us in upholding the flag of the Sunnah. He enjoined the good and forbade the evil in an excellent manner like in the tape ?there are no scholars in the west?

He visited us several times. 1n 1997 and 1998 he came and stayed for a while in east London and Luton benefiting us and helping the dawah, bringing clarity to the affairs which had become clouded. He was a source of inspiration to myself and a fine companion whilst he lived with me in Luton and on our travels around Britain. He also helped translate lessons by the people of knowledge at that time and at a conference in Birmingham [2001]. His live translations were the best and the people enjoyed to listen to him.

We will all miss him across America and Britain, and our hearts on eid will still be sad. May Allaah have mercy upon him, forgive his mistakes and grant him Paradise.

Bismillahi wassalaatu wassalaamu 'alaa rasoolillah wa ba'd

I was just reflecting upon this summer at the "Stop the Discord" conference in Jersey.  It was my first time really meeting Abu Awais rahimahullah rahmatan waasiy'ah yet he wasted no time in giving me golden advise.  He'd heard my name before by way of mutual friends and it seemed that either he'd intended to give me this advice whenever he met me or he merely wanted to give his brother some beneficial advice incase he never saw me again in this life.
I cherish the advice that he gave me and the benefit that I took from his unique character and his wisdom.

May Allah ta'aalaa forgive him of all his sins, multiply the rewards of his good deeds and grant him jannatal firdous.

Bismillaah wassalaatu wassalaamu ?alaa rasoolillaah

As salaamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakaatu

Some knew him as a teacher while others knew him as a brother, he was known to us as a friend. While being his host for about two weeks when he was translating here in New York, we ironed his clothing in the morning and discussed religious issues with him at night. It was just the two of us. He was brave rahimahullah and far from a coward. He was firmly grounded in the Arabic language, a quick and good translator, firm in Manhaj and we don?t praise anyone more than Allah. He knew himself and he knew that he was not a Scholar even if others thought he was. He was practical rahimahullaah and at the same time, a defender of the Salafi Manhaj. Abu Uwais would tell us stories about when he was in the Islamic University of Al-Medina and when he met Imaam Al-Albaanee. He had a connected chain for his knowledge. We learnt from Abu Uwais that Islam is not just lip service but it is something you live. He was well respected by the Salafis and we hope that our Lord who is just will join us and our friend and brother Abu Uwais in the best part of Al-Jannah. We thought we would add our two cents to this thread based on a few moments we spent alone with our noble brother, instructor, and friend Abu Uwais.
