as-salaamu 'alaykum,

below is some of what i was able to find at troid.  from the looks of it, he was on the correct way, but he was later worshipped by the innovators.

quote:

Shaykh ?Abdul-Qaadir al-Jeelaanee (d.561H) - rahimahullaah - said:

??It is essential to carry the Attribute of al-Istiwaa (Allaah?s Ascending) by His Dhaat (Essence) over the Throne.  Istiwaa does not mean sitting and touching - as the Mujassimah and Karraamiyyah say; nor does it mean ?uluww (grandeur and highness) - as the Ash?ariyyah say; nor does it mean isteelaa (conquering or dominating over) - as the Mu?tazilah say.  None of this is related in the Sharee?ah.  Neither has this been related from any of the Salafus-Saalih, from the Companions and the Taabi?een, nor from the Ashaabul-Hadeeth (Scholars of Hadeeth).  Rather, it is related from them that they carried al-Istiwaa with its apparent meaning.??

quote:

Shaykh 'Abdul Qaadir al-Jeelaanee said: As for al-Firqatun Naajiyah (The Saved Sect), it is Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa'ah, and there is no name for Ahlus Sunnah except one, and that is Ashaabul Hadeeth. [Al Ghuniyatut Taalibeen (p. 212)]

quote:

Shaykh ?Abdul-Qaadir al-Jeelaanee (d.561H) said, ?So it is upon you to fear Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - and not to fear anyone else except Him. Turn to Allaah - the Mighty and Majestic - for your every need, and rely upon Him alone - the Most High - seeking that which you need from Him alone. Do not rely upon anyone other than Allaah. And Tawheed - all is contained in Tawheed.?

quote:

That the worshipping of dead pious Muslims continues to be practiced amongst the Ummah even today. The difference being is that the names have changed. Thus, instead of worshipping Wadd, or Yaghooth, or Ya?ooq; people have instead directed the same practices of Shirk - like supplicating directly to the pious dead, and taking them as intercessors between them and Allaah - to others; such as to Shaykh ?Abdul-Qaadir al-Jeelaanee in ?Iraaq, or al-Baydaawee in Eygypt, or Chishtee in India, etc. However, changing the name of a thing, does not change its reality.

the following was sent to me by a brother:

quote:

On behalf of some of the brothers from Mexico City I sent our brother 'Abdullah MacPhee (may Allah reward him), a series of questions from them regarding various topics. This is the second question we posed:

The First Question: Is Abdul-Qaadir al-Jilaanee considered to be from Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamaah and to be from the Major Scholars of his time? Is it permissible for us to read from his books such as al-Fathu ar-Rabanee (The Sublime Revelation), Futuh-ul-Ghayb (Revelations of the Unseen), or Kitaab Sirr-il-Asrar (The Book of the Secret of all Secrets)?

As for the first question then ash-Shaykh Abdur-Rahmaan al-?Adanee-may Allah protect him-said which means: He is soofee. Shaykh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah-may Allah have mercy upon him-held him in high regard however he was soofee and Ahl-us-Sunnah wal-Jamaah are not in need of reading his books.

I would suggest that it read, based on the Arabic in the thread:

quote:
"...Shaykh-ul-Islaam Ibn Taymeeyah-may Allah have mercy upon him- spoke well of him (or: "said some nice words about him")..."

And Allaah knows best.

quote:

Shaykh Rabee' ibn Haadee Al-Madkhalee has mentioned in his book, "Al-Hadd ul Faasil", page 136,: - I have found that his (Shaykh Abdul Qadeer al-Geelanee) Aqeedah from his book "Al-Ghunyah", therefore I have discovered that he is a Salafee. He has affirmed the meaning and maintained all the Names and Attributes of Allaah and all the other matters of Aqeedah on the manhaj of the Salaf. On the various deviated sects, such as the Shi'ah, Rafidhah, Jahmeeyah, Saleemiyyah and others, he refuted them with manhaj of the Salafus-Soleh."

Assalamualaykum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh

quote:
